Southern City 2025 Issue 3 Out Now!

Issue 3 of Southern City 2025 is here, bringing stories of leadership and innovation from across North Carolina’s cities and towns.

This edition celebrates the first-ever recipients of the Advanced Municipal Leadership certificates, honoring local officials committed to continuous growth and service. It also profiles Laurinburg Council Member Mary Jo Adams, whose lifelong dedication to her hometown has helped fuel a thriving community. Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo and Governor Josh Stein share their call to strengthen FEMA rather than eliminate it, underscoring the importance of federal partnership in disaster recovery. Readers will also meet Senator Kevin Corbin, who reflects on his local roots and his commitment to keeping community voices central in state decision-making.

Alongside these features, the issue explores how the League’s Accounting Instruction & Mentorship program is building stronger financial futures for small towns, and how the City of Kannapolis has created a workplace culture that values and retains its dedicated public servants. Together, these stories capture the spirit of collaboration and progress that defines municipalities across North Carolina.
