North Carolina Responder Assistance Initiative

The North Carolina League of Municipalities is proud to support and collaborate with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety through the North Carolina Responder Assistance Initiative (RAI). This program provides a confidential continuum of wellness and mental health services designed specifically for first responders and public safety personnel. The initiative connects law enforcement, fire, EMS, emergency management, and telecommunicators to peer support, behavioral health professionals, resiliency coaching, and wellness training. RAI offers both virtual and in-person resources to ensure that those serving on the front lines and their families have access to the help they need when facing the personal and professional challenges that come with protecting our communities.

Through our Shield Services program, the League is proud to serve as a conduit to this vital initiative, helping municipal first responders across North Carolina connect with trusted support systems. By aligning with DPS and the RAI team, the League reinforces its commitment to reducing stigma around mental health, improving resiliency, and promoting long-term wellness for those who dedicate their lives to public safety. This partnership ensures that officers, firefighters, EMTs, dispatchers, and other emergency professionals confidential care and peer support as part of a strong and sustainable safety net.
