Municipal Representation

One of the League’s most important responsibilities is representing the municipal viewpoint before the General Assembly, the U.S. Congress and administrative rule-making authorities.

To effectively lobby and advocate for what's in the best interest of cities, towns, and their residents, our Government Affairs staff works directly with legislators, government agencies and employees, and other policymakers to ensure that municipal officials are involved in the process of setting policies and rules affecting municipal operations.

Who Represents You?

Find Your Legislators

Knowing who represents you at the state and federal level, and being able to then communicate with those individuals, is critical to effective advocacy. All North Carolinians are represented by our two U.S. Senators, as well as by a member of the U.S. House, the NC Senate and the NC House, with each determined by legislative and congressional districts.

Key Issues: The Housing Crisis

North Carolina, like much of the rest of the country, faces a crisis in housing affordability. This has been an issue that the state’s most urbanized areas have been facing and addressing for years, but finding affordable places to live is increasingly a problem in communities of all sizes.

In response to the housing crisis, the N.C. League of Municipalities (NCLM) and N.C. Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) undertook a survey of some of the fastest growing jurisdictions in North Carolina to better understand the scope of the problem, local policies and processes related to housing, and possible ways to better address the issue of affordable housing.
