Q&A's:
TELL US WHY YOU WOULD LIKE TO SERVE IN A LEADERSHIP POSITION AT THE LEAGUE. IN PARTICULAR, SPECIFY GOALS YOU WOULD LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH AS AN OFFICER OR BOARD MEMBER AND INDICATE HOW, IF ATTAINED, THEY WILL HELP TO ACHIEVE VISION 2030 – THE LEAGUE’S FUTURE VISION OF HOW CITIES AND TOWNS WILL OPERATE IN 2030?
In our constantly changing environment, I believe it is more critical than ever that municipalities partner with one another. We will need to work together regionally to address a host of issues including: economic development, water/sewer services, legislative needs, and more. By large cities working together with smaller cities, we can all benefit. In addition, by working together to move a coordinated approach to legislative agendas, we all can have equal influence in Raleigh.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A MUNICIPAL OFFICIAL. YOU MAY WANT TO INCLUDE INFORMATION ON YOUR SERVICE ON THE MUNICIPAL GOVERNING BODY, OTHER RELATED BOARDS AND SPECIAL AREAS OF INTEREST?
I have served on the Greensboro City Council since 2017. Six of the nine members of our council were elected for the first time in 2025. As a senior member, I have stepped up to mentor and assist the new members in their on-boarding to ensure that each of them become effective members of the team.
I have also served as the Vice-Chair of Jordan Lake One Water, as well as finishing Mayor-Pro-Temp Yvonne Johnson's term on the NCLM Board after her passing. I have been an active participant on the NCLM Finance Committee for the past year. In addition I have served for 10 years on the Transportation Advisory Council for the MPO.
Special areas of interest include housing/homelessness, regionalization of water services, and economic development.
