Q&A's:

TELL US WHY YOU WOULD LIKE TO SERVE IN A LEADERSHIP POSITION AT THE LEAGUE. IN PARTICULAR, SPECIFY GOALS YOU WOULD LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH AS AN OFFICER OR BOARD MEMBER AND INDICATE HOW, IF ATTAINED, THEY WILL HELP TO ACHIEVE VISION 2030 – THE LEAGUE’S FUTURE VISION OF HOW CITIES AND TOWNS WILL OPERATE IN 2030?

If selected to serve as board member, my main focus would be helping municipalities learn from and support one another. Smaller and rural communities often face unique challenges, and I want to make sure their voices are heard and that tools, ideas, and practical solutions are easy for everyone to access. Strong peer-to-peer collaboration can help local leaders tackle tough issues and build stronger communities.

I’d also work to support economic growth while protecting the character and quality of life that make North Carolina communities special. My background in tourism and community development has shown me how effective partnerships can be in creating vibrant downtowns, supporting small businesses, and improving public spaces.

I believe the League should continue to be a strong advocate for municipalities by providing resources, guidance, and legislative support. These goals align well with Vision 2030 and support cities and towns that are collaborative, resilient, and ready to thrive.

Finally, I believe that my expertise in commercial real estate will be a valuable asset in the consideration of the future plans for the property owned by the league.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A MUNICIPAL OFFICIAL. YOU MAY WANT TO INCLUDE INFORMATION ON YOUR SERVICE ON THE MUNICIPAL GOVERNING BODY, OTHER RELATED BOARDS AND SPECIAL AREAS OF INTEREST?

I joined the Eden City Council in 2013. and continued as a Councilman until my election to Mayor in 2017. I recently was re-elected for a third term as Mayor. My commitment to municipal service comes from being a lifelong Eden resident with a strong desire to give back to the community that I have loved and that I have chosen to raise my family. Throughout my public service, I have been involved in local economic development efforts and supported community programs that improve quality of life for Eden residents. During my time in City government I have worked closely with other municipal leaders, members of the NC General Assembly, and members of Congress. These relationships are crucial for the betterment of our City.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND, PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE, AND/OR COMMUNITY OR CIVIC ACTIVITIES?

I am a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, with a double major in Political Science and Elementary Education. After college I returned to Eden and emersed myself in the community. My work has included engagement with numerous community organizations, including Board Member Eden Boys and Girls Club, Board Member Rockingham County Community College Foundation, Board Member UNC Healthcare Foundation, Board member for Rockingham Community College Criminal Justice Advisory, Past Chairman for Eden ABC Board, Chairman of Communities in Schools of Rockingham County programs serving children and families in Eden, as well as community initiatives focused on food assistance, workforce development, and family support services. These programs play a critical role in meeting essential needs, strengthening families, and creating opportunities for long-term stability. Through this experience, I have seen firsthand how strong partnerships between local government, nonprofits, and community organizations can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents.
