Q&A's:

TELL US WHY YOU WOULD LIKE TO SERVE IN A LEADERSHIP POSITION AT THE LEAGUE. IN PARTICULAR, SPECIFY GOALS YOU WOULD LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH AS AN OFFICER OR BOARD MEMBER AND INDICATE HOW, IF ATTAINED, THEY WILL HELP TO ACHIEVE VISION 2030 – THE LEAGUE’S FUTURE VISION OF HOW CITIES AND TOWNS WILL OPERATE IN 2030?

District 1 is a very diverse area with the relatively prosperous costal areas to extremely rural counties with real poverty and the issues the come along with that. I would endeavor to represent all of the municipalities in this outlying district with the passion I have for my home town of Duck. I will do everything in my power to drive businesses and jobs to these areas. In the coastal areas there is a major problem with workforce housing, this is an area of great concern to me.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A MUNICIPAL OFFICIAL. YOU MAY WANT TO INCLUDE INFORMATION ON YOUR SERVICE ON THE MUNICIPAL GOVERNING BODY, OTHER RELATED BOARDS AND SPECIAL AREAS OF INTEREST?

I have been a member of Duck Town Council since 2023, representing the town on the Government Access TV board and the Regional Transport committee. Previously I was chair of the Solid Waste and Recycling Committee in Morrisville NC.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND, PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE, AND/OR COMMUNITY OR CIVIC ACTIVITIES?

I trained as a Mechanical Engineer, becoming a Chartered Engineer (equivalent of Professional Engineer in the UK). I worked in several engineering fields including textile machines, HVAC, petro-chemical and auto racing. In England I was a Boy Scout Leader for over 25 years. in the US I volunteered with the Team Drea Foundation a non-profit working to find a cure for ALS. I volunteer for numerous activities in Duck including beach grass planting, Duck Sweep, summer events and Duck Jazz Fest.
