IN PARTICULAR, SPECIFY GOALS YOU WOULD LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH AS AN OFFICER OR BOARD MEMBER AND INDICATE HOW, IF ATTAINED, THEY WILL HELP TO ACHIEVE VISION 2030 – THE LEAGUE’S FUTURE VISION OF HOW CITIES AND TOWNS WILL OPERATE IN 2030?
Over the past 5 years, I have served in an elected position and have had the opportunity to attend CityVision Annual Conferences, training by NCLM, Town and State Dinner and the National League of Cities. I have gained an amazing insight into the depth of knowledge that is gained by interacting with the presenters and attendees. My goal would be to encourage greater support and attendance by the local elected officials across our state.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A MUNICIPAL OFFICIAL. YOU MAY WANT TO INCLUDE INFORMATION ON YOUR SERVICE ON THE MUNICIPAL GOVERNING BODY, OTHER RELATED BOARDS AND SPECIAL AREAS OF INTEREST?
In 2021, I was elected as the first African American female to serve the City of Kannapolis. In this municipal role, I have interacted closely with the management team of our city, as well as staff members. I have gained knowledge of and experience in developing and managing budgets and setting strategic goals for our municipality. During the quarterly summits with the 5 Cabarrus County towns and cities, I have gained knowledge as to how decisions each municipalities make impact the relationship and progress collectively. As a member of the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Board of Trustees, I am keenly aware of the economic impact this entity makes in the training of our residents.

PLEASE PROVIDE ANY OTHER INFORMATION YOU WOULD LIKE THE NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE TO CONSIDER?
I have lived in Kannapolis, on the Rowan County side for 55 years. Prior to being elected to the City Council, I served as a Precinct Judge for Rowan County, I am an active member of Price Memorial A. M. E. Zion Church, Concord.
I actively attend the community organizations in Kannapolis to gain a greater knowledge of the concerns and interests of our constituents. I am also a member of Sisters in Partnership, a community breast health advocacy organization.
My experience over the organizations that I serve currently and, in the past, give me valuable experience and awareness of the resources that benefit our community and this knowledge can be transferred to the NCLM.
