TELL US WHY YOU WOULD LIKE TO SERVE IN A LEADERSHIP POSITION AT THE LEAGUE. IN PARTICULAR, SPECIFY GOALS YOU WOULD LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH AS AN OFFICER OR BOARD MEMBER AND INDICATE HOW, IF ATTAINED, THEY WILL HELP TO ACHIEVE VISION 2030 – THE LEAGUE’S FUTURE VISION OF HOW CITIES AND TOWNS WILL OPERATE IN 2030?

I would like to serve on the NCLM Board to build upon the work of the previous clerk representative, and to foster communication about the role of the municipal clerk and how the position can serve as a conduit between decisionmakers and the public. The role of the clerk is often the first line of communication between a community's citizens, visitors, and critics, and the most foundational and responsive level of government. As the League continues to make progress with its Vision2030 program, it is my profession's goal to further reinforce the first pillar of reaching and empowering North Carolina citizens. We clerks will strive to accomplish this ever-continuing challenge by increasing our opportunities for education, self-growth, and increased communication.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A MUNICIPAL OFFICIAL. YOU MAY WANT TO INCLUDE INFORMATION ON YOUR SERVICE ON THE MUNICIPAL GOVERNING BODY, OTHER RELATED BOARDS AND SPECIAL AREAS OF INTEREST?

I have served the Town of Kill Devil Hills since 2014, and have worked with our governing board and every appendant board and committee that operates with the town. My predecessor was a longtime giant in our field, and I was extremely lucky to be trained by her over several years. I interact with the public, our governing board members and committee appointees, other departments, and other governments and their representatives. I serve as liaison to our governing board, and work with the town manager and staff to execute their goals for our community.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND, PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE, AND/OR COMMUNITY OR CIVIC ACTIVITIES?

I have achieved an undergraduate degree in Business Administration (focus in Management), a Master's in Business Administration, and a law degree. I have been very active in my faith community and taught middle / high school Sunday school for 20 years, and have been active in many areas of my church. With other volunteers, I established the Dare County Youth Orchestra, which provides low-cost strings instruction for school-aged children throughout the county. I was very active in my children's elementary and high school parent teacher organizations, and served for many years on the Dare County Schools Superintendent Parents Advisory Council.

Thank you for your consideration. I have personally witnessed the great work of the NCLM staff and how hard they endeavor to accomplish the organization's goals while serving every member municipality. I would hope to assist the organization in support of its great staff and its goals.
