Description
Please Note: The Salary Range Provided Is A General Guideline. Final Compensation Will Be Determined Based On The Selected Candidate’s Qualifications & Experience.
The Assistant Transit Director Performs Professional And Administrative Work Directing The Activities Of The City Transportation Department And Performs Related Work As Required.
Work Is Performed Under The General Supervision Of The Transportation Director. Supervision Is Exercised Over Selected Transportation Department Personnel.
Essential Tasks & Responsibilities
- Assume All Responsibilities Of The Transportation Director In Their Absence.
- Develop Long-range Public Transportation Plans.
- Represent The City In Coordinating Transportation Activities With Other Governmental Agencies And Private Firms.
- Attend And Provide Recommendations At Committee And City Council Meetings, As Needed.
- Identify And Respond To Community And City Council Issues, Concerns, And Needs.
- Assist In Managing Approved Operating And Capital Programs.
- Assist In Preparing Departmental Budget Estimates.
- Assist The Department Director With Purchasing, Budgeting, And Personnel Administration, Including Hiring, Termination, Disciplinary Actions, Hearings, And Promotions.
Qualifications
Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree In Civil Engineering, Planning, Or A Closely Related Field With Seven (7) Or More Years Of Experience In Transportation Or High School Diploma/ged With A Minimum Of Ten (10) Years Of Experience In Transportation
Five (5) Years In A Direct Supervisory Role.
Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
Registration As A Professional Engineer (pe) Or Certification From The American Institute Of Certified Planners (aicp).

Hearing/speaking - Expressing Or Exchanging Ideas By Means Of Spoken Word. Perceive Nature Of Sounds By Ear. Necessary To Converse With Supervisors, City Officials, Employees And The General Public In Person And By Telephone.
Visual Abilities - The Ability To Perceive The Nature Of Objects By The Eye Is Required For This Position:
Acuity, Far - Clarity Of Vision At 20 Feet Or More. Both Eyes 20/30 - R 20/30 - L 20/30 Corrected.
Acuity, Mid-range - Clarity Of Vision At Ranges From 20 Inches To 20 Feet.
Acuity, Near - Clarity Of Vision At 20 Inches Or Less. Both Eyes 20/22 Corrected.
Depth Perception - Three-dimensional Vision. Ability To Judge Distance And Space Relationships To See Objects Where And As They Are. Depth Perception - 4.
Field Of Vision - The Area That Can Be Seen Up And Down Or To The Right Or Left While Eyes Are Focused On One Point.
Accommodation - Must Be Able To Adjust The Eye Lens To Bring An Object Into Sharp Focus. This Item Is Especially Important When Doing Near-point Work At Varying Distances From Eye.
Physical Strength - Degree Of Physical Demands Typically Associated With This Position Include:
