Tell us why you would like to serve in a leadership position at the League. In particular, specify goals you would like to accomplish as an officer or board member and indicate how, if attained, they will help to achieve Vision 2030 – the League’s future vision of how cities and towns will operate in 2030?

I look forward to continuing my service on the Board of Directors representing the NC City and County Management Association and the areas surrounding Gastonia and Gaston County.  I will continue to stress the importance of civic education which includes the roles and responsibilities of municipalities in NC versus those of counties, the state, and the federal governments.  I believe that municipalities should have decision making authority at home without overreach by the state and federal governments.

Tell us about your experience as a municipal official. You may want to include information on your service on the municipal governing body, other related boards and special areas of interest?

If reappointed, I will represent the town, city, and village managers across NC and report on my participation in NCLM events and activities back to the membership of the NC City and County Management Association.  I hope to serve as a valuable liaison between the NCLM and the NCCCMA and promote the activities and value of the NCLM to my peers.  I have 25 years of service in NC municipalities and my goal is to retire here in my my home state.

Tell us about your educational background, professional experience, and/or community or civic activities?

I have two BS degrees from Western Carolina University and an MPA from Appalachian State University.  I have completed many training and certifications hosted by UNC School of Government and the NCLM.  I am currently a member of the Gastonia Rotary Club, a Board member of a non-profit Gaston Together, and also serve as the Vice-Chair of the NCMPA 1 ElectriCities Board of Commissioners.  I am a past president of the NC City and County Management Association and I am an ICMA Credentialed Manager.

I have really enjoyed the last two years being a member of the NCLM Board of Directors and I look forward to serving an additional two years.  This is a great organization and I love being able to dedicate time to making it even better for the future.
