Tell us why you would like to serve in a leadership position at the League. In particular, specify goals you would like to accomplish as an officer or board member and indicate how, if attained, they will help to achieve Vision 2030 – the League’s future vision of how cities and towns will operate in 2030?
I am deeply committed to fostering the growth and well-being of our communities across North Carolina. Serving on the NC League of Municipalities Board of Directors would allow me to collaborate with dedicated leaders to address the pressing challenges municipalities face and to advocate for policies that empower local governments.
My aspiration to serve on the NC League of Municipalities (NCLM) Board of Directors aligns closely with the principles of Vision 2030. My goal is to assist municipalities to thrive amidst changing demographics, urbanization, and economic forces. By addressing strategic challenges and fostering collaboration, Vision 2030 will help to ensure that cities and towns across North Carolina can adapt and prosper.
As a board member, I would contribute to this vision by advocating for policies that enhance local decision-making, promoting sustainable growth, and supporting innovative solutions to community challenges. My expertise in financial planning and community engagement would be instrumental in advancing the League's goals of inclusiveness, collaboration, and responsiveness, which are central to Vision 2030.
Tell us about your experience as a municipal official. You may want to include information on your service on the municipal governing body, other related boards and special areas of interest?
As a City Manager, it is both a privilege and responsibility to serve the community. My role centers on fostering collaboration between elected officials, city staff, and our residents to ensure the effective delivery of services, strategic planning, and economic development. By emphasizing transparency, innovation, and fiscal responsibility, I aim to create an environment where individuals, families, and businesses can thrive. Throughout my career I have had the opportunity to effectuate change with the communities I have worked in order to create tangible growth and improvement.
Tell us about your educational background, professional experience, and/or community or civic activities?
I holds three degrees from East Carolina University: a Bachelor of Science in Political Science, a Master of Public Administration, and a Master of Science in Geography and Planning. With over fifteen years of experience in municipal government, I have served as Town Administrator in Elm City, NC, and Town Manager in LaCrosse, VA, as well as working with the City of Greenville, NC. I have been in my current role as City Manager of Washington for the past six years as well. My civic involvement includes active participation in advisory boards and committees that support community development and governance along with the East Carolina Alumni Association Board of Directors and Washington Noon Rotary Club.
