DECATUR IS DEDICATED TO ENGAGING ITS CITIZENRY IN STRATEGIC AND COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING. ADJACENT TO ATLANTA, DECATUR IS THE COUNTY SEAT FOR DEKALB COUNTY AND IS KNOWN FOR ITS EXCELLENT SCHOOL SYSTEM AND POLITICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE STABILITY.  THE ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER IS APPOINTED BY AND REPORTS TO THE CITY MANAGER. THE PREVIOUS ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER FOR ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES WAS APPOINTED CITY MANAGER FOR DECATUR ON JANUARY 1, 2019. THERE ARE THREE ASSISTANT CITY MANAGERS IN DECATUR -- THE ACM FOR ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES, THE ACM FOR COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND THE ACM FOR PUBLIC WORKS. THE CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE ALSO INCLUDES A DEPUTY CITY MANAGER FOR CAPITAL CONSTRUCTION. THE ACM FOR ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES HAS OVERSIGHT OF FINANCE, HUMAN RESOURCES, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND MUNICIPAL COURTS. THIS ACM POSITION IS ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND OVERSIGHT OF THE ANNUAL BUDGET.  THE CITY HAS A $59 MILLION TOTAL BUDGET, WHICH INCLUDES A $26 MILLION GENERAL FUND BUDGET. DECATUR IS A FULL SERVICE CITY INCLUDING POLICE, FIRE, PUBLIC WORKS, COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, PLANNING AND ZONING, FINANCE, HUMAN RESOURCES, ACTIVE LIVING, CHILDREN AND YOUTH SERVICES, CIVIC ENGAGEMENT, COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING, AND SPECIAL EVENTS. THE CITY HAS 225 FULL-TIME EMPLOYEES, AND 150 PART-TIME SEASONAL EMPLOYEES.  THE CITY WORKS CLOSELY WITH COMMUNITY AND INSTITUTIONAL PARTNERS, ALL DEDICATED TO COMMUNITY BUILDING AND WORKING TOGETHER TO SHARE FACILITIES WHEN POSSIBLE AND TO ADVANCE THE GOALS OF THE CITY. DECATUR’S DOWNTOWN DISTRICT IS HOME TO A MARTA STATION WHICH CONNECTS ITS RESIDENTS EASILY TO THE CITY OF ATLANTA AND THE GREATER METROPOLITAN AREA. CANDIDATES FOR THE DECATUR ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER POSITION MUST HAVE 5-7 YEARS INCREASINGLY RESPONSIBLE EXPERIENCE IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT. EXPERIENCE IN BUDGET DEVELOPMENT AND OVERSIGHT, HUMAN RESOURCES AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IS HIGHLY VALUED ALONG WITH A COMMITMENT TO STRATEGIC PLANNING, EXCELLENCE IN CUSTOMER SERVICE AND INNOVATION. IN ADDITION, CANDIDATES MUST HAVE STRONG PROJECT MANAGEMENT SKILLS, A RECORD OF TAKING INITIATIVE AND A MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP STYLE THAT REFLECTS COLLABORATION AND TEAM BUILDING. CANDIDATES MUST POSSESS A BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION, BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION OR RELATED FIELD. A MASTER’S DEGREE IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION, BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION OR OTHER FIELD IS HIGHLY VALUED. RESIDENCY IN THE CITY OF DECATUR IS NOT REQUIRED. STARTING SALARY RANGE IS $95,000 - $125,000 +/- DOQ.
