The Position The City Of Virginia Beach Is Seeking Its Next Deputy City Manager To Provide Leadership And Strategic Direction For The Economic Vitality Portfolio. The Deputy City Manager Of Economic Vitality Will Report To The City Manager And Serve As An Integral Member Of The Management Leadership Team. More Specifically, The Deputy City Manager Will Lead And Develop The Departments Of Economic Development, Planning, Agriculture, And Convention & Visitor’s Bureau. This Individual Will Collaborate With The City Manager To Implement The City Council's Vision And Ensure Efforts Are Aligned And Integrated Into The Organization While Improving Citywide Performance And Maximizing Effectiveness. The Deputy City Manager Will Provide Strategic Leadership To The Departments Within The Economic Vitality Portfolio With An Emphasis On Growing And Maintaining The City’s Agricultural Assets, Attracting Visitors And Businesses, And Sustaining Balanced Development And Growth. The Responsibilities Of The Deputy City Manager Include: • Acting On Behalf Of The City Manager In His Absence • Facilitating Open Transparency On City Projects And Proactively Communicating Any Potential Issues To The City Manager And City Council • Fostering An Environment Of Organizational Accountability And Alignment Of Work Product With Desired Outcomes • Furthering The City’s And Region’s Goals By Actively Engaging And Partnering With City, Federal, State, And Regional Bodies • Guiding Assigned Departments To Make Innovative And Data-informed Decisions • Leading In Setting Priorities For Your Portfolio So The City’s Mission And Vision Are At The Forefront In Identifying, Planning, And Implementing Projects • Inspiring And Encouraging A Strong Workforce By Developing Staff Through Growth And Learning Opportunities Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications Include A Bachelor's Degree In Public Policy, Planning, Business Administration, Or A Related Field. Candidates Should Have Eight Years Of Management/leadership Experience Or Higher-level Education And Experience Equivalent To 14 Years In Fields Utilizing The Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities, Including Eight Years Of Higher-level Program Management Or Administrator Experience. A Master's Degree Is Strongly Desired, But Not Required. Compensation And Benefits The Salary Is Commensurate With Experience Up To $235,000. The City Offers A Generous Benefits Package, Which Includes Health, Dental, And Life Insurance, Retirement And Savings Plans, Holidays, And Paid Time Off. Executive Benefits Include Five Additional Days Of Administrative Leave Per Year And A Car Allowance.
