​The Town Of Aberdeen, A Growing Community Located Adjacent To Pinehurst And Southern Pines Is Seeking A Dedicated Candidate To Fill A Chief Building Inspector Position. This Position Will Require Above Average Abilities To Build Interpersonal Relationships, Exhibit Excellent Oral And Written Communication, And A Superior Working Knowledge Of The Construction Industry. This Position Is Responsible For The Review, Inspection And Enforcement Of Building Codes And Ordinances Relating To Residential And Commercial Construction And Enforcement Of The General Town Code. Examples Of Work Performed Will Include Plan Review, Conducting Field Inspections, Site Visits, Interaction And Communication With Contractors, Developers, The Public And Property Owners, Completion And Filing Of Reports, Coordination With Other Town Departments And The Department Of Insurance As Necessary, And The Initiation Of Compliance And Enforcement Actions. Position May Conduct Field Inspections Of Property And Vehicles Within Town Limits And Report Possible Violations Of Town Ordinances Such As Overgrown Grass, Junk And Abandoned Vehicles, And Right-of-way Obstructions, In Addition To Their Building Code Enforcement Duties. Position Supervises Two Staff Members: Permit Technician And Code Enforcement Officer.

Requirements: Extensive Knowledge Of The Principles And Practices Of The Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical Trades; Extensive Knowledge Of Building, Construction, Engineering And Structural Engineering Principles And Practices; Extensive Knowledge With Building And Related Codes, Laws And Ordinances; Ability To Plan, Direct And Coordinate The Various Phases Of Inspection Services; Ability To Solve Problems Within Scope Of Responsibility; Firmness And Tact In Enforcing Building Codes And Nuisances; Ability To Establish And Maintain Effective Working Relationships With Property Owners, Contractors, Developers, The General Public, And Co-workers; Ability To Supervise And Direct The Work Of Staff Members.

Must Possess A Valid NC Driver’s License. Building Inspection Level I Certificates Are Required In All Trades, And Level II Or III Certificates Are Preferred. Must Have The Ability To Obtain Building Inspection Level III Certificates Within An Agreed Upon Time Frame.
