An Employee In This Class Is Responsible For Tasks Associated With The Successful Operation Of Computerized Signal Systems And Traffic Engineering Functions Of The Traffic Signal Division. Supervises Staff Providing Semi-skilled To Skilled Installation, Maintenance, And Repair Duties For City's Traffic Control Systems And Traffic Signs. Work Is Performed Under General Supervision Of The Engineering Director And Is Evaluated Based On Conferences, Review Of Completed Work And Records, And Observation Of Demonstrated Skills. MAJOR DUTIES: Operate And Optimize Computerized Signal System Through Signal Timing, Central Software Programming/maintenance/operation, Signal Plan Development/revisions, Congestion Management, System Integration (flashers, Preemption, Etc.). Plans And Performs Work Related To NCDOT Maintenance Agreement, Schedule “D"; Operate System According To Standards As Set Forth By Schedule “D." Advises, Assists, And Confers With Contractors, City And State Officials, Engineers, And Utility Companies To Coordinate Construction Activities Involving Traffic Signal Installation. Manage And/or Work On Various Transportation Projects Related To Signal System (emergency Vehicle Preemption, Video Catalog Of Traffic Control Devices, School Flasher Integration, Etc.). Performs Various Traffic Engineering Studies And Surveys; Collects And Analyzes Traffic Data; Performs Field Investigations And Recommends Solutions In Response To Citizens' Requests Regarding Traffic Signals, Signs, And Pavement Markings; Supervises Work Of Signal Shop. Directs The Operations And Maintenance Of Traffic Signals, Signs, And Pavement Markings. Receives And Answers Requests For Assistance, Complaints, And Inquiries From The Public Regarding Traffic Signals, Signs, And Pavement Markings. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree In Engineering, Public Administration, Or Related Field With A Minimum Of Three Years' Progressive Transportation Experience; Or An Equivalent Combination Of Education And/or Experience. Possession Of A Valid North Carolina Driver's License. Registered Professional Engineer In The State Of North Carolina Or The Ability To Obtain Within Designated Period.
