General Definition And Conditions Of Work: The Deputy Public Works Director Provides Management Assistance To The Public Works Director. Performs Complex Supervisory, Administrative, And Professional Work In Planning, Organizing, Directing, And Supervising All Public Works Department Divisions, Including Streets And Grounds, Solid Waste, Fleet Maintenance, Central Services, And Other Public Works Projects And Programs. Essential Functions: -Defines, Establishes, And Monitors Goals And Objectives For The Divisional Programs Within The Broader Context Of Department-wide Operational Requirements In Coordination With Public Works Director. -Ensures That Required Duties Of The Department Are Carried Out. -Prioritizes Requests For Services And Coordinates Them With The Required Duties. -Ensures That Department Personnel Perform Their Duties. Monitors Job Performance And Corrects Inefficiencies. Provides Direction To Achieve Departmental Goals, Exactness, Neatness And Conformance To Policies And Procedures. -Plan, Organize, Coordinate, Supervise And Evaluate Programs, Plans, Services, Staffing, Equipment Maintenance And Repair, And Infrastructure Of The Public Works Department. -Keeps The Public Works Director Informed On Key Projects And Activities. -Evaluate Public Works Needs And Formulate Short- And Long-range Plans To Meet Needs In All Areas Of Responsibility. -Oversee The Maintenance Of Infrastructure And Other Records. -Provides Planning Of Future Projects. Prioritizes Projects And Adjusts Schedule As Conditions Change. Determines Estimated Costs To Be Used For Budgeting Purposes. -Assist In The Preparation Of Annual Operating And Capital Budgets For Public Works Operational Divisions And Administer The Approved Budget Within Operational Divisions. -Analyzes Ongoing Operations To Provide Feedback On The Adequacy And Efficient Use Of Financial Resources. -Responds To Inquiries And Requests To Assure Public Works Maintains An Exemplary Level Of Customer Service And Courtesy. -Approves Payroll And Accounts Payable For Operational Divisions. -Interacts With Engineering Firms Retained On The Town's Behalf On Various Projects. Analyzes Recommendations From Consultants With The Best Interests Of The Town In Mind. -Interacts With Public Works Officials From Other Towns, Officials From Various Agencies, And Contractors To Carry Out The Work Of The Department. -Monitor Inter-governmental Actions Affecting Public Works. -Training And Enforcement Of Safety Policies, Procedures, And Protocols. -Serves As Public Works Director In Their Absence. -Performs Related Tasks As Required. Education And Experience: Bachelor’s Degree In A Related Discipline Or Equivalent Combination Of Education And Experience.
