Responsible For Informing And Educating Residents And Other Target Audiences About The Town, To Promote Awareness About The Town And Increase Positive Exposure. Work Involves Creation And Administration Of A Wide Variety Of Communications Collateral Across Multiple Avenues (such As Websites, Newsletters, Videos, News Releases, Newspaper Articles, Reports, Brochures And Fliers, Etc.) And Collaborating On The Development Of The Town’s Strategic Communications Plan. Work Involves Considerable Broad Contact With The Public, Town Officials, And Town Staff. Considerable Creativity, Flexibility, And Independence Is Essential To This Position. An Employee In This Class Is Distinguished By Having Considerable Independent Contact And Requires The Frequent Exercise Of Initiative, Independent Judgment, And Discretion. Work Is Performed Under The General Supervision Of The Communications And Outreach Director. Work May Include General Supervision Of Key Initiatives And Strategic Teams.
Examples Of Duties
• Manages Timely And Accurate Content For Town External And Internal Websites; Trains Town Staff And Collaborates Across Town Departments To Manage Effective Web Communications; Develops And Maintains The Web Editor Policy.
• Manages Town’s Quarterly Newsletter Production And Publication.
• Manages Town E-mail Distribution Lists And/or Databases Used For Effective Outreach, Communications, And Marketing Functions; Provides Direct Information To Residents; Creates A Database Of Resident Inquiries To Identify Trends On Informational Needs And Identify Ways To Systemize Effective Communications.
• Establishes And Maintains Effective Media Relations; Responds To Media Inquiries; Schedules And Coordinates Press Conferences And/or Interviews For Elected Officials And Staff; And Notifies/briefs Media Representatives At The Direction Of The Communications And Outreach Director.
• Coordinates, Records, And Edits Concise Video Packages About Town Employees And Programs.
• Writes, Edits, Designs, Publishes, And Distributes Informational, Educational, Marketing And Outreach Materials Targeted To A Wide Variety Of Target Audiences.
• Collaborates With The Communications Team To Develop A Strategic Communications Plan For The Town.
• Manages Town Brand And Activities In Support Of Branding/rebranding Strategies; Works With Vendors And Coordinates With Town Staff To Ensure Authentic Branding Across All Departments.
• Attends A Wide Variety Of Town Functions And Community Events Such As Charities, Board Meetings, And Special Events To Support Strategic Communications Efforts And Promote The Town.
• Supports Town Programs And Activities, And Assists With Marketing And Outreach Plans For These; Advises And/or Assists With Special Event Setup And Logistics As Needed.
• Assists Town Departments With Writing, Editing And Graphic Design For A Variety Of Publications And Programs.
• Performs Related Tasks As Required.
