Job Description Under General Direction, This Service Position Works Within The Criminal Investigation Division Of The Police Department And Performs Investigations Of Alleged Or Suspected Criminal Violations Of State And Local Laws. This Position Requires The Investigator To Work Autonomously On A Wide Variety Of Cases Including Narcotics Violations, Sexual Offenses, And Crimes Involving Juveniles. JOB DUTIES OR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The Essential Functions Of The Position Include, But Are Not Limited To The Following: • Investigates Alleged Or Suspected Criminal Violations. • Collects Documents And Disseminates Intelligence Information Regarding Criminal Activities Or The Actions Of Known Criminals. • Conducts, Interviews, And Obtains Statements From Victims, Witnesses, And Suspects Of Alleged Crimes. • Prepares And Submits Cases To The Appropriate Prosecuting Officials For The Purpose Of Initiating Criminal Action Against Offenders. • Initiates Appropriate Investigative Action To Specific Situations In The Absence Of Direct Supervision. • Provides Assistance To The Patrol Division Or Other Offices When So Directed Or Requested. • Collects, Packages, And Preserves Physical Evidence In A Manner Which Insures The Admissibility Of Such Evidence In A Court Of Law. • Obtains And Uses Search And Arrest Warrants. • Performs Undercover Assignments And Surveillance Activities When Necessary. • Cooperates With Investigators From Outside Agencies In The Investigation Of Criminal Activity. • Testifies In Court And Before Grand Juries Concerning Criminal Activity Investigations. • Responds To Calls For Investigative Assistance On Off-duty Time When Necessary. • Performs Other Duties As Requested. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS To Perform This Position Successfully, An Individual Must Be Able To Perform Each Essential Function Satisfactorily. The Requirements Listed Below Are Representative Of The Formal Education, Experience And Training Required. Education High School Diploma Or GED Equivalent.
