The City Of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina (pop. 15,128) Is Seeking An Experienced Law Enforcement Executive To Lead And Help Shape The Future Of The Roanoke Rapids Police Department (RRPD) As Our Next Police Chief. The Position Directs All Aspects Of The City’s Law Enforcement Program And Contributes As A Member Of The City Leadership Team In Achieving Citywide Goals And Objectives Established By Roanoke Rapids City Council. The Police Chief Reports To The City Manager. Job Duties Include: • Leads All Aspects Of RRPD Law Enforcement Services; Regularly Meets With RRPD Leadership Team To Clarify Mission And Objectives; Builds A Team Atmosphere That Includes Obtaining Input On Issues And Decisions And Ensuring All Are Informed. • Recruits, Selects And Oversees The Training Of Civilian And Sworn RRPD Personnel; Advises, Directs And Consults With RRPD Leadership Team On Matters Of Training, Work Assignments And Scheduling, Work Performance, Promotions And Other Personnel Matters. • Establishes Departmental Policy, Sets Priorities And Reviews Performance Expectations; Recommends And Directs Changes As Needed. • Supervises The Preparation Of And Recommends Annual Budgets In Consultation With The City Manager; Supervises And Participates In The Application Of Grants. • Receives And Investigates Public Inquiries Or Complaints Concerning Police Activities And Services. • Oversees The Preparation Of Periodic Reports Of Crime And Accident Activity And RRPD Activities In Relation To This Information; Analyzes Data Trends; Presents Reports To Department Staff, City Administration, Elected Officials And Citizens. • Promote RRPD’s Mission, Goals, Activities And Achievements To The General Public On A Regular Basis; Build A Positive And Productive Relationship With The Community We Serve. • Takes A Lead Role In Directing Police Activity At A Major Crime Scene; Performs Other Law Enforcement Tasks As Needed, Especially In Emergency Situations. • Work With The Public On Difficult Or Unusual Crime Situations; Cooperate And Collaborate With Other Law Enforcement Agencies In Crime Prevention, Detection And Investigative Activities. • Perform Other Related Duties As Assigned. Typical Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree Or Higher In Criminal Justice, Public Administration Or A Closely Related Field Of Study; Possess Or Can Obtain An Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate By The North Carolina Criminal Justice Training And Standards Commission Within First 12 Months Of Employment; A Minimum Of 10 Years Of Professional Law Enforcement Experience With At Least 5 Years In A Supervisory/ Management Role Or An Equivalent Combination Of Education, Certifications And Years Of Experience. Possession Of A Valid North Carolina Driver’s License And Primary Residence Is Located Within Halifax County, North Carolina Limits Or Has The Ability To Relocate To Halifax County, North Carolina Within The First 12 Months Of Employment.
