To Perform Difficult Administrative And Law Enforcement Work In The Protection Of Life And Property In The City. Responsibilities Include Supervising The Patrol, Support Services, And/or Investigations Divisions Of The Department; Assigning Staff And Monitoring Performance; Researching And Recommending Departmental Policies; Preparing And Administering Budgets; Representing The Department At Various Functions; Handling Citizen Concerns And Issues; Participating In The Patrol And Investigations Work; Performing Crime Prevention, And Other Administrative Work. Work Requires Comprehensive Knowledge Of Law Enforcement Management And Substantial Judgement And Independent Initiative. Work Involves Frequent Public Contact Which Requires Tact, Firmness And Decisiveness. Work Is Performed In Accordance With Departmental Policy And State And Federal Law, Supplemented With Specific Directions From The Police Chief. Bachelor’s Degree From A 4-year Accredited College Or University With Major Course Work In Criminal Justice, Political Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, Or Related Field Or Seven Or More Years’ Management Experience In Law Enforcement At The Rank Of Sergeant Or Higher; Or Associate Degree Or Currently Enrolled Minimum Ten Plus (10+) Years’ Management Experience In Law Experience)at The Rank Of Sergeant Or Higher; Or Any Equivalent Combination Of Experience And Training Necessary To Perform The Work AND Five (5) Or More Years Of Progressively Responsible Law Enforcement Experience With Two (2) Or More Years In A Supervisory Capacity. • Valid N.C. Driver's License And Acceptable Driving Record. Ability To Obtain BLET Certification In North Carolina Within Twelve (12) Months Of Hire Date. Certified At The Intermediate Level Law Enforcement Certificate Awarded By The North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission Advance Certification From The North Carolina Criminal Justice Education And Training Standards Commission Or A Graduate From An Executive Management School Based On Position Within Current Department.
