WHAT WE NEED: The Town Of Harrisburg Currently Has An Employment Opportunity In Our Planning Department For An Assistant Planning Director. This Is A Great Opportunity For Someone Who Is Up For The Challenge Of A Busy Planning Operation. An Employee In This Class Manages The Current Planning And Code Enforcement Functions Of The Planning Department And Assists With The Planning, Development And Implementation Of Policies And Procedures For The Effective And Efficient Operation Of These Functions. Work Involves The Exercise Of High-level Professional Planning Skills And Responsibilities In The Formation, Installation, Modification, And Improvement Of The Town's Development-related Codes, Ordinances, And Processes. Thorough Knowledge Of NC State Planning And Development Regulations And Local Development Ordinances. Superior Oral And Written Communication Skills. Administrative And Technical Supervision Is Exercised Over Professional Planners And Clerical Staff. Duties Include Consulting With Boards And Committees, Assisting With Department Budget Preparation, And Supervisory Functions Of Employment, Training, Review Of Work, And Performance Evaluation. Considerable Tact And Courtesy Required In Frequent Interactions With The Public And Development Community, Along With Excellent Public Relations Skills. Work Is Supervised By The Planning Director And Evaluated Through Conferences, Reports, And Progress On Assigned Duties, Planning Projects And Other Work-related Efforts. DESIREABLE CANDIDATE: We Are Looking For An Individual With A Bachelor’s Degree From A College Or University With Major Coursework In Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Or Related Field And At Least 5 To 7 Years Of Progressively Responsible Experience In Municipal, County Or Regional Planning, Including Supervisory Experience; Or An Equivalent Combination Of Education And Experience. Master’s Degree In Planning Or Related Field And AICP (American Institute Of Certified Planners) Certification Preferred. AICP Certification Will Be Required Within 12 Months Of Hire.
