Description: The Duties Of This Position Include Inspecting Building, Electrical, Mechanical And Plumbing Systems For Compliance With State And Local Construction Codes; Reviewing All Construction Plans And Permit Applications And Inspecting Structures In The Process Of Construction, Alteration Or Repair. Other Responsibilities Of This Position Include Checking Existing Structures For Hazardous Conditions And Structural Failures; Assisting And Advising Contractors On Regulations; Issuing Warnings And Stop-work Orders For Non-complying Projects; Answering Questions From Private Citizens, Contractors And Builders Regarding Enforcement And Changes To The Codes And Ordinances; Keeping Records Regarding Inspections; And Performing Related Tasks As Required. Requirements: Any Combination Of Education And Experience Equivalent To Graduation From High School And 2 – 3 Years Of Building Code Inspection Experience. State Certifications Required, Or The Ability To Obtain The Certifications Within Two Years. The Possession Of A Driver’s License Valid In The State Of North Carolina Is Required. Compensation: The Hiring Range For This Position Is $39,292 - $49,749. Halifax County Provides A Comprehensive Employee Benefits Package, Including Membership In The N.C. Local Government Employees’ Retirement System. Signing Bonus: A Non-refundable Signing Bonus Will Be Paid In The Selected Applicant’s First Paycheck Following Employment. The Sign On Bonus Amount Will Be Based On The Certification Level Held By The Applicant: Level 1 Certification - $2,500, Level 2 Certification - $5,000, Level 3 Certification - $7,500.
