Deputy Fire Chief-Fire Marshall

The Fire Marshal Plans And Directs The Activities Of The Fire & Life Safety Branch. The F&LS Branch Enforces The NC State Fire Code, Conducts Plan Review Of Residential Developments And Commercial Building Projects, And Performs Ongoing Inspections Of All Commercial Buildings Inside The City Limits. Candidate Should Be Skilled At Evaluating Performance, Developing/managing Programs, Managing The Branch’s Budget, Resolving Complaints, Building Community Relationships, And Attending Local, Regional, National Conferences. Minimum Four-year Degree From An Accredited College Or University - Possession Of A Fire Prevention Level I Standard Certificate And Ability To Obtain A Level III Certificate Within A Reasonable Time, As Agreed Upon During Hiring Negotiations – 10+ Years’ Experience In A Career Municipal Fire Department, With 3-5 Years Of Administrative Or Executive Experience, Or Equivalent - Proven Success In Planning, Program And Policy Development, And Project Management - Demonstrable Knowledge Of Modern Code Enforcement Practices - Certificates Of Completion For NIMS 100, 200, 700 And 800, And ICS 300 & 400 - Familiarity With Standard Organizational Management Software, Such As Microsoft’s Office, And Records/document Management Systems - Possession Of, Or Ability To Possess A NC Class C Driver License - Must Successfully Pass An NFPA 1582-compliant Pre-hire Medical Evaluation - Must Submit To Thorough Driving/criminal Background Investigation - Must Establish Residency Within 30 Air Miles Of City Hall Within 180 Days Of Hire. Preferred Master’s Degree In Public Administration, Business Administration, Or Degree Related To Emergency Services Management, Or Equivalent - Completion Of National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program - Designation As Chief Fire Officer By Center For Public Safety Excellence - Working Knowledge Of Fire Service Accreditation Model - Possession Of Fire Prevention Level III Standard Certificate - Certified Fire & Life Safety Educator III - Fire Investigation Technician Certification - Plan Review Experience, Including High-rise Occupancies. The Ideal Candidate Will Have Extensive Experience In Fire And Emergency Services, In The Areas Of Risk Reduction, Code Enforcement, Inspections, And Plan Review. Solid Working Knowledge Of The Building Code, Safety Topics, Incident Command, Supervisory Principles/practices, NFPA Standards, And NC Municipal Law. Possess Visionary Leadership Style With Strong Skills In Strategic Planning, Data Analysis, Relationship-building, Verbal And Written Communications, Budgeting And Resource Management. Complete Understanding Of The Modern Fire Environment Is A Must. Demonstrate Ability To Submit Completed Work, Requiring Little Or No Correction By Fire Chief Or City Management Team. Salary Range: $94,773-$142,159
