Sr Civil Engineer (Position 4193) Department: Engineering And Inspections
Job Type: Active Full-Time
Salary: $69,739.00 - $116,231.00 Annually
Work Schedule: Mon – Fri, 8:00 Am – 5:00 Pm
Primary Duties/Brief Description Of Work:
The Senior Civil Engineer Position Will Perform Technical And Professional Engineering Work In The Design, Investigation, And Construction Of Roadway And Public Works Projects. This Position Will Prepare Designs, Plans, And Specifications For The Construction Of Sidewalks, Roadways, Storm Drainage, Water And Sewer Lines, Etc. This Position Will Also Solicit Fully Qualified Engineering Firms (On-Call Consultants) Capable Of Providing Required Professional Services. Manage The Assessment, Selection, And Development Of Contracts With The Selected Firms. Additional Duties Will Include, But Not Limited To: Reviewing Plans, Specifications, And Bid Items Submitted By Consultants For Compliance With Engineering, City, And NCDOT Standards; Coordinating Phases Of The Pre-construction Process Such As Survey, Design, Utility Impacts, Right-of-way And Easement Acquisition; Attending Pre-construction Meetings; And Provide Engineering Support To Construction Inspectors. This Position Will Serve As A Liaison For The Project Management Group With Other City Sections, Divisions, Departments, And Outside Agencies During Project Implementation. This Employee Should Have Knowledge Of The Design Codes, State And Local Laws, And Regulations Governing Engineering Design And Construction. This Position Has Supervisory Responsibilities For The Engineering Division’s Project Managers. The Ideal Candidate Must Be Able To Work Effectively With Professional Staff And Consultants On Both Technical And Controversial Design Issues, Have Negotiation Skills, And Have Good Written And Oral Communication Skills. This Position Is EXEMPT And Is Not Subject To The Overtime Provisions Of The Fair Labor Standards Act.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree With 4 Or More Years Of Experience In The Design Of Public Works Projects And Project Management
o Or Associate's Degree With 6 Or More Years Of Experience In The Design Of Public Works Projects And Project Management
• Experience Utilizing AutoCAD Or Similar Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) Package In Developing Detailed Design Plans And Cost Estimates
• Experience Using MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree In Civil Engineering
• NC PE License
• Municipal Government Experience
• NCDOT Design And Construction Experience
• 2+ Years’ Experience With ArcGIS
• 3-5 Years Supervisory Of Experience OR Experience That Consists Of Leading Teams And/or Projects Assigning/organizing Tasks, And Implementing Plans
