Description:
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE EXCELLENT TIME AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT SKILLS; A CAPACITY FOR INDEPENDENT, INNOVATIVE THINKING; EXPERIENCE IN LEVERAGING PUBLIC AND PRIVATE RESOURCES; A COLLABORATIVE APPROACH TO PROBLEM SOLVING; AND A PROACTIVE APPROACH TO ANTICIPATING THE NEEDS OF THE ORGANIZATION. MUST BE A DEDICATED TEAM PLAYER WHO CAN QUICKLY GAIN THE CONFIDENCE OF DEPARTMENT STAFF AND THE LEADERSHIP TEAM, EXPERIENCED IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT, DEMONSTRATE MORAL AND ETHICAL STANDARDS, AND BE A PROACTIVE LEADER. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO EMBRACE CHANGE AND FOCUS ON CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT OF THE ORGANIZATION WHILE MANAGING MULTIPLE CAPITAL PROJECTS. THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE EXPECTED TO PROVIDE STRONG LEADERSHIP TO THE COMPLETION OF CURRENTLY FUNDED TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS EXCEEDING $200 MILLION AND CAPITAL FACILITY PROJECTS SUCH AS A NEW POLICE HEADQUARTERS/MUNICIPAL COURT COMPLEX AND A NEW FIRE STATION INCLUDED IN THE CITY’S CIP BUDGET OF $37 MILLION. HE/SHE WILL HAVE EXCEPTIONAL PRESENTATION SKILLS, A DEMONSTRATED ABILITY TO BUILD CONSENSUS AMONG DISPARATE COMMUNITY GROUPS, AND PROJECT CONFIDENCE AND COMPOSURE WHEN DEALING WITH CONFLICT AND CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION, BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, CITY PLANNING, ENGINEERING,
PROJECT MANAGEMENT, OR RELATED FIELD REQUIRED. MASTER’S DEGREE FROM A WELL-ESTABLISHED,
EDUCATIONALLY RECOGNIZED UNIVERSITY OR COLLEGE IS HIGHLY DESIRED; PE LICENSE IS PREFERRED BUT NOT
REQUIRED.
• FIVE YEARS OF PROGRESSIVELY RESPONSIBLE EXPERIENCE IN DIRECTING A LARGE DEPARTMENT, OVERSEEING
MULTIPLE DEPARTMENTS, OR MANAGING CITY-WIDE PROJECTS (ESPECIALLY LARGE CAPITAL PROJECTS), PROGRAMS,
AND INITIATIVES, TO INCLUDE LEAD OR SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED; OR ANY EQUIVALENT
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE WHICH PROVIDES THE REQUISITE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS,
AND ABILITIES FOR THIS JOB.
• EVIDENCE OF CONTINUED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SUCH AS ICMA CREDENTIALED MANAGER DESIGNATION
AND/OR CERTIFIED CONSTRUCTION MANAGER (CCM) DESIGNATION, ARE POSITIVE INDICATORS OF DEDICATION TO
THE PROFESSIONS AND WILL BE NOTED DURING THE VETTING PROCESS.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
THE EXPECTED STARTING SALARY RANGE FOR THIS POSITION IS $150,000 - $175,000 (DEPENDING ON QUALIFICATIONS OF THE SELECTED CANDIDATE), WITH A COMPREHENSIVE BENEFITS PACKAGE, INCLUDING HEALTH, DENTAL AND VISION COVERAGE, AS WELL AS CITY PROVIDED SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM DISABILITY AND LIFE INSURANCE. THE CITY OFFERS A GENEROUS RETIREMENT PROGRAM WITH A 17% CITY CONTRIBUTION. RELOCATION EXPENSES ARE NEGOTIABLE.
