JOB SUMMARY: UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE TOWN MANAGER, THE BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR WORKING WITH MUNICIPAL, COUNTY AND STATE GOVERNMENT, COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS TO PROMOTE AND IMPLEMENT ECONOMIC GROWTH IN THE TOWN. PRIORITIES INCLUDE BUSINESS AND INDUSTRIAL RECRUITMENT, RETENTION AND EXPANSION. THIS POSITION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR WORKING WITH THE MONROE/UNION ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, UNION COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, SOUTH PIEDMONT COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND OTHER EDUCATIONAL AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •SERVES AS A CONTACT FOR POTENTIAL BUSINESSES AND INDUSTRIES CONSIDERING NEW LOCATION OR EXPANSION; SHOWS SITES AND ARRANGES MEETINGS; RESEARCH LAND AND COORDINATES CONTACTS FOR THE PROPERTY; SERVES AS LIAISON DURING FACILITY CONSTRUCTION; INVESTIGATES LABOR SUPPLY, UTILITIES, AND WORKS WITH VARIOUS GROUPS TO ENSURE THE AVAILABILITY OF AN ADEQUATE, WELL-TRAINED WORKFORCE FOR OUR COMMUNITY. •DEVELOP AN ECONOMIC STRATEGY ON HOW TO BEST PROMOTE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WITHIN THE TOWN LIMITS. •DEVELOPS MARKETING TOOLS FOR THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF IT INCLUDING BROCHURES, FLYERS, BOOKLETS, AND ADS, ETC. •ATTEND TRADE SHOWS AND RELATED TRAINING. DEVELOPS A NETWORK OF CONTACTS TO IDENTIFY POTENTIAL COMMERCIAL SITES; PROMOTES EXISTING INDUSTRIAL AND COMMERCIAL PARKS AND SITES; MONITORS BUILDING PROJECTS. •DEVELOPS GRANTS AND FUNDING SOURCES IN CONJUNCTION WITH LOCAL GOVERNMENT EFFORTS TO SUPPORT INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS, I.E. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANTS; RESEARCH, WRITES AND CONTRACTS FOR GRANTS PROCUREMENT AND ADMINISTRATION; KEEPS ABREAST OF LONG-RANGE TRANSPORTATION PLAN. •MAINTAINS CONTACT WITH LOCAL, REGIONAL AND STATE AGENCIES, DEVELOPERS, COMMUNITY LEADERS, AND REPRESENTATIVES OF BUSINESSES AND INDUSTRY. •MAINTAINS CONTACT WITH INDUSTRY AND BUSINESSES IN THE TOWN REGULARLY TO STAY ABREAST OF THEIR STATUS, ANY POTENTIAL FOR EXPANSION, AND ASSISTS WITH PROBLEMS; FOLLOWS UP ON REQUESTS. •KEEPS CURRENT RECORDS ON SITES & BUILDINGS, AND REPORTS CHANGES TO THE STATE INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPERS; KEEPS FILES AND STATISTICS ON LABOR WAGES, DEMOGRAPHICS, ECONOMIC BASE, MAPS, PROFILES, UTILITIES, RETAIL SALES, BUILDING PERMITS, FINANCES AND SCHOOLS; REPORTS ON GROWTH ANNOUNCEMENTS AND STATISTICS ON VARIOUS AGENCIES. COLLECTS DEMOGRAPHIC, GEOLOGICAL, ECONOMIC, AND OTHER RELATED DATA ABOUT THE TOWN; MAINTAINS DATA BASE OF TOWN RESOURCES. •ESTABLISHES YEARLY GOALS AND OBJECTIVES. •MAINTAINS PRODUCTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH PRIVATE, EDUCATIONAL, LOCAL, REGIONAL AND STATE ORGANIZATIONS, TO PROMOTE AND ENHANCE LOCAL AND REGIONAL ECONOMIC GROWTH. •MAKES PRESENTATIONS ON INFRASTRUCTURE EXPANSION TO SUPPORT NEW OR EXPANDING BUSINESSES, AS WELL AS OTHER RELATED PRESENTATIONS AS MAY BE REQUIRED. •WORKS CLOSELY WITH THE TOWNS DEPARTMENT AS PART OF COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT SALARY RANGE:$58,301-$94,739.
