ASSISTANT PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR HIRING RANGE: $65,312-$75,000-CITY OF MARION POPULATION 8,500–PERFORMS DIFFICULT PROFESSIONAL, TECHNICAL, ADMINISTRATIVE, AND MANAGERIAL WORK ASSISTING THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR IN THE MANAGING, PLANNING, ORGANIZING, AND DIRECTING OF PUBLIC WORKS AND UTILITIES ACTIVITIES. REQUIRES SIGNIFICANT SKILL AND EXPERIENCE IN PUBLIC WORKS AND UTILITIES ADMINISTRATION AND PROJECT AND PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT; KNOWLEDGE OF THE PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN ENGINEERING, CONSTRUCTION, AND REPAIR RELEVANT TO STREET AND DRAINAGE INFRASTRUCTURE AND WATER/SEWER UTILITIES; CONSIDERABLE SELF-INITIATIVE; FREQUENT INTERACTION WITH THE PUBLIC; AND INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT. OVERSEES PROGRAMS/PROJECTS/FUNCTIONS AS ASSIGNED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANY COMBINATION OF THE FOLLOWING: STREET MAINTENANCE, SANITATION, FLEET MAINTENANCE, BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS MAINTENANCE, WATER/WASTEWATER TREATMENT, WATER DISTRIBUTION, WASTEWATER COLLECTION, AND MANAGEMENT OF CAPITAL PROJECTS AND SAFETY PROGRAMS. MANAGES CAPITAL PROJECTS AND SMALLER CONSTRUCTION/REPAIR PROJECTS; COMPILES AND MAINTAINS MANUALS CONTAINING TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS AND STANDARD DETAILS FOR THE DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION, AND/OR MODIFICATION OF STREET AND/OR WATER/SEWER INFRASTRUCTURE; REVIEWS PRELIMINARY AND CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING PLANS FOR COMPLIANCE WITH CITY STANDARDS; RESEARCHES LEGISLATION AND ACTIONS OF REGULATORY AUTHORITIES FOR PERTINENCE TO OPERATIONS AND ENVIRONMENTAL PERMITS; PREPARES COMPLEX RECORDS/REPORTS PERTAINING TO OPERATIONS AND REGULATORY COMPLIANCE; PERFORMS STATISTICAL ANALYSIS AND FEASIBILITY/EFFICIENCY STUDIES; ADVISES/ASSISTS DIRECTOR IN THE BUDGET AND STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS; OVERSEES AND APPROVES EXPENDITURES; AND MANAGES DIFFICULT AND SENSITIVE PUBLIC INQUIRIES, COMPLAINTS, SUGGESTIONS, ETC. REQUIRES, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO, KNOWLEDGE OF THE PRINCIPLES/PRACTICES OF PUBLIC WORKS AND UTILITIES ADMINISTRATION AND RELATED ENGINEERING PRINCIPLES/PRACTICES OF STREET AND DRAINAGE INFRASTRUCTURE AND WATER/SEWER UTILITIES; KNOWLEDGE OF OSHA REGULATIONS; KNOWLEDGE OF LAWS AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE PROVISION OF PUBLIC WORKS AND UTILITIES SERVICES; KNOWLEDGE OF THE METHODS AND EQUIPMENT USED IN FACILITIES AND GROUNDS MAINTENANCE AND THE COLLECTION OF SOLID WASTES; KNOWLEDGE OF GOVERNMENTAL BUDGETING AND PURCHASING POLICIES/PROCEDURES; SKILL IN EFFECTIVE SUPERVISORY PRACTICES; ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE PROFESSIONALLY, TACTFULLY, AND EFFECTIVELY; AND ABILITY TO MAINTAIN EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS. REQUIRES GRADUATION FROM AN ACCREDITED COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY WITH DEGREE IN CIVIL OR ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING, PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION, OR RELATED FIELD, AND CONSIDERABLE EXPERIENCE IN A RESPONSIBLE MANAGERIAL POSITION IN THE PUBLIC WORKS OR UTILITIES FIELD, WITH CONSIDERABLE PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES; OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE.
