PERFORMS DIFFICULT PROFESSIONAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE WORK INVOLVING THE PLANNING, DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND INSPECTION OF COMPLEX PUBLIC WORKS AND UTILITIES PROJECTS; DOES RELATED WORK AS REQUIRED. WORK IS PERFORMED UNDER THE GENERAL DIRECTION OF THE ASSIGNED SUPERVISOR. COORDINATES THE CONSTRUCTION OF MAJOR PUBLIC WORKS PROJECTS, COORDINATE INTER AND INTRA-GOVERNMENTAL ACTIVITIES, OVERSEES BIDS, AGREEMENTS AND RELATED MATTERS WITH PRIVATE CONTRACTORS AND OTHER OFFICIALS; (35%) PLANS, SUPERVISES AND PARTICIPATES IN THE REVIEW OF SUBDIVISION, SITE, AND CONSTRUCTION PLANS, PLATS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR CODES COMPLIANCE, MUNICIPAL STANDARDS AND POLICIES, AND SOUND ENGINEERING PRINCIPLES; (20%) PLANS, SUPERVISES AND REVIEWS THE WORK OF TECHNICAL PERSONNEL ENGAGED IN THE PREPARATION OF DESIGNS, DRAWINGS, ESTIMATES, SPECIFICATIONS, CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTS, PAYMENTS TO CONTRACTORS AND RELATED ENGINEERING WORK; (20%) PROVIDES DEVELOPERS, CONTRACTORS, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC WITH TECHNICAL INFORMATION RELATING TO ENGINEERING PROJECTS; (5%) COORDINATES WORK OF CONSULTING ENGINEERS, OTHER MUNICIPAL DEPARTMENTS AND GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES WITH THAT OF THE ENGINEERING DIVISION; (5%) SUPERVISES THE PREPARATION OF THE PROPERTY MAPS AND LEGAL DESCRIPTIONS FOR THE ACQUISITION OF AND DISPOSAL OF PROPERTY; (5%) COORDINATES WITH SURVEY PARTY CHIEFS IN THE COLLECTION OF ENGINEERING DATA NECESSARY FOR THE PLANNING, DESIGN, AND CONSTRUCTION OF A VARIETY OF PUBLIC WORKS AND UTILITIES PROJECTS; (5%) PREPARES TECHNICAL REPORTS. (5%) COMPREHENSIVE KNOWLEDGE OF THE PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF CIVIL ENGINEERING AS APPLIED TO THE DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT AND CONSTRUCTION OF COMPLEX PUBLIC WORKS AND UTILITIES FACILITIES; CONSIDERABLE KNOWLEDGE OF THE CURRENT LITERATURE, TRENDS AND DEVELOPMENTS IN THE FIELD OF ENGINEERING SPECIALIZATION; COMPREHENSIVE KNOWLEDGE OF MODERN METHODS AND TECHNIQUES AS APPLIED TO THE DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE OF PUBLIC WORKS AND UTILITIES PROJECTS; ABILITY TO PERFORM COMPLEX ENGINEERING COMPUTATION AND TO MAKE COMPREHENSIVE RECOMMENDATIONS ON ENGINEERING PROBLEMS AND PLANNING; ABILITY TO ESTABLISH EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH CITY OFFICIALS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, DEVELOPERS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC; ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE COMPLETE IDEAS EFFECTIVELY, ORALLY AND IN WRITING; ABILITY TO CALCULATE COMPLEX COST REPORTS. ASSIGNMENTS ARE BROAD IN SCOPE AND AFFORD OPPORTUNITIES TO EXERCISE CONSIDERABLE INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND COMPLETION OF A VARIETY OF ENGINEERING PROJECTS. GRADUATION FROM AN ACCREDITED COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY WITH A BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN CIVIL ENGINEERING OR CIVIL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY.DRUG SCREENING, CRIMINAL BACKGROUND, AND A POET (POST OFFER EMPLOYMENT TESTING) ARE REQUIRED.THE CITY OF GASTONIA IS COMMITTED TO CREATING AND MAINTAINING A WORK ENVIRONMENT THAT IS INCLUSIVE, EQUITABLE AND WELCOMING.
