WHAT WE NEED: THE TOWN OF HARRISBURG CURRENTLY HAS AN EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY IN OUR PLANNING AND ZONING DEPARTMENT FOR A PLANNING DIRECTOR. THIS IS AN EXCITING OPPORTUNITY FOR SOMEONE WHO IS UP FOR THE CHALLENGE OF MANAGING A GROWING DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING THE VISION OF THE HARRISBURG AREA LAND USE PLAN, GUIDING FUTURE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE TOWN, AND CONTINUING TO BUILD A STRONG AND VIBRANT COMMUNITY. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE A PROVEN RECORD OF MANAGING SHORT AND LONG-TERM PLANNING PROJECTS, ZONING, LAND DEVELOPMENT, FLOODPLAIN ADMINISTRATION, STAFFING AND CONSULTING WITH BOARDS AND COMMITTEES. WORK INVOLVES COORDINATION AND COLLABORATION WITH A VARIETY OF OTHER LOCAL, REGIONAL AND STATE JURISDICTIONS AND AGENCIES, IDENTIFICATION OF ISSUES AND CLOSE WORK WITH TOWN OFFICIALS IN PRO-ACTIVELY ADDRESSING PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT ISSUES. WORK REQUIRES CONSIDERABLE KNOWLEDGE OF THE PLANNING FIELD AND LOCAL ORDINANCES, MEETING FACILITATION AND COLLABORATIVE CONFLICT RESOLUTION SKILLS AND INVOLVES EXTENSIVE PUBLIC CONTACT. ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE BUDGET PREPARATION, TRACKING GRANTS AND PRESENTATION AND MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT AND DISSEMINATION. WORK ALSO REQUIRES STRONG VISIONING SKILLS AND THE ABILITY TO EXPLAIN PLANNING CONCEPTS IN AN UNDERSTANDABLE MANNER. POSITION REQUIRES AN ENERGETIC AND DETAILED ORIENTED INDIVIDUAL WITH EXCELLENT ORGANIZATIONAL AND ORAL AND WRITTEN ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS. DESIREABLE CANDIDATE: WE ARE LOOKING FOR AN INDIVIDUAL WITH SIGNIFICANT EXPERIENCE IN MUNICIPAL PLANNING ADMINISTRATION. GRADUATION FROM A FOUR-YEAR COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY WITH MAJOR COURSEWORK IN PLANNING, GEOGRAPHY, LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE, OR RELATED FIELD AND AT LEAST 7 TO 10 YEARS OF PROGRESSIVELY RESPONSIBLE EXPERIENCE IN MUNICIPAL, COUNTY OR REGIONAL PLANNING INCLUDING SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE; OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE. MASTER’S DEGREE IN PLANNING OR RELATED FIELD AND AICP (AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PLANNERS) CERTIFICATION ARE PREFERRED (AICP CERTIFICATION REQUIRED WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF HIRE).
