THE CITY OF MARION IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR A STREET SUPERINTENDENT. THIS POSITION PERFORMS COMPLEX TECHNICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE WORK PLANNING, ORGANIZING, AND SUPERVISING THE WORK OF A FULL SERVICE STREET DEPARTMENT, GROUNDS MAINTENANCE CREW, AND FACILITIES MAINTENANCE CREW. THE POSITION ALSO MANAGES THE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF A MUNICIPAL CEMETERY. GENERAL DUTIES INCLUDE MANAGING CONSTRUCTION, MAINTENANCE, AND REPAIR OF MUNICIPAL STREETS; CONSTRUCTION, MAINTENANCE, AND REPAIR OF MUNICIPAL CURBS, GUTTERS, SIDEWALKS, AND STORM DRAINAGE SYSTEMS; MAINTENANCE OF MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS; GROUNDS AND RIGHT OF WAY MAINTENANCE; STREET AND SIDEWALK CLEANING. WORK INCLUDES A FULL RANGE OF PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES. THE EMPLOYEE PROVIDES TECHNICAL ADVICE AND ASSISTANCE TO THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR, RELEVANT TO CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE PROJECTS AND DAILY OPERATIONS. THE EMPLOYEE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING THAT MODERN, SAFE, EFFECTIVE, AND EFFICIENT PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES ARE UTILIZED BY MUNICIPAL WORK CREWS. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE POSSESSION OF A VALID NORTH CAROLINA CDL DRIVER’S LICENSE OR ABILITY TO OBTAIN WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF HIRE DATE; GRADUATION FROM HIGH SCHOOL OR GED EQUIVALENT; VOCATIONAL/TECHNICAL DEGREE IN A RELATED CONSTRUCTION OR ENGINEERING TRADE IS PREFERRED; CONSIDERABLE SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE IN THE CONSTRUCTION/REHABILITATION OF MUNICIPAL STREETS AND RELATED APPURTENANCES; EXPERIENCE AT THE PROJECT MANAGER OR SUPERINTENDENT LEVEL IS PREFERRED; CONSIDERABLE KNOWLEDGE OF AND WORK EXPERIENCE WITH MUTCD WORK ZONE SAFETY, FLAGGER SAFETY, OSHA REQUIREMENTS, AND OTHER RELEVANT SAFETY POLICIES/PROCEDURES/REGULATIONS; CONSIDERABLE EXPERIENCE OPERATING THE HEAVY EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS USED IN STREET CONSTRUCTION/REHABILITATION AND CONCRETE WORK; KNOWLEDGE OF AND EXPERIENCE WITH GENERAL FACILITY MAINTENANCE AND/OR A BUILDING TRADE IS A PLUS FOR THIS POSITION; OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE. HIRING SALARY RANGE $40,528 – $52,687 DEPENDENT UPON QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE.
