Police Chief

The Town of Forest City is seeking a well-qualified applicant to fill the position of Police Chief due to the retirement of our current Chief of Police. Located in the foothills of Western North Carolina, the Town of approximately 7500 residences in an 8.2 square mile city limits is centrally located between Charlotte, NC and Asheville, NC. The Town has seen growth with many commercial projects, including the Facebook Data Center located within the City limits, and a revitalized downtown with new restaurants and apartments, a new amphitheater, and a 13-mile rails to trail corridor.

Reporting directly to the Town Manager, the Police Chief is responsible for the supervision of 30 full time sworn officers and 2 full time civilian personnel. The applicant should have strong skills in leadership, community-oriented policing, and excellent communication skills. Experience in supervision and management specifically in law enforcement work is desired.

The ideal candidate will be a graduate from an accredited college or university with major coursework in criminal justice, public administration, or a related field supplemented by advanced courses in police administration and considerable management experience in law enforcement. Advanced training through an accredited school or program is preferred.

Applicants must have a valid NC driver’s license and must have completed the minimum requirements established by the NC Justice Training and Standards Council for certified law enforcement officers. Advanced certification is preferred. Salary range for this position is $67,878 – $101,817. The successful applicant must pass drug tests, criminal background check, and psychological evaluation prior to employment.
