CITY OF KANNAPOLIS SEEKS A HIGHLY MOTIVATED, ENERGETIC, VISIONARY, TEAM-ORIENTED FIRE CHIEF. LOCATED JUST 20 MINUTES FROM UPTOWN CHARLOTTE AND ALL THE CONVENIENCES OF AN URBAN METROPOLITAN REGION, KANNAPOLIS IS A PROGRESSIVE AND RAPIDLY GROWING CITY WHERE COUNCIL AND RESIDENTS ARE ENGAGED AND ENCOURAGING OF FIRE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL AS EVIDENCED BY THEIR SUPPORT TO HIRE ADDITIONAL STAFF, PURCHASE EQUIPMENT AND CONSTRUCT TWO NEW FIRE STATIONS. THE CITY MANAGER HAS BEEN IN PLACE FOR OVER 15 YEARS AND LEADS A MANAGEMENT TEAM OF SEASONED PROFESSIONALS WHERE EVERYONE COLLABORATES TO GUIDE THE CITY COUNCIL’S VISION OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROSPERITY FOR THE CITY. THE DEPARTMENT BOASTS AN ISO RATING OF 1 AND SERVES AN AREA OF OVER 32 SQUARE MILES. CONSISTING OF 116 PERSONNEL WHO ARE ASSIGNED TO FIVE STATE OF THE ART FACILITIES, TWO OF WHICH WERE CONSTRUCTED WITHIN THE PAST TWO YEARS, THE DEPARTMENT RECENTLY CELEBRATED ITS 100TH BIRTHDAY SERVING THE COMMUNITY. THE CHIEF ADMINISTERS A $7.85 MILLION DEPARTMENT BUDGET AND PERFORMS RESPONSIBLE ADMINISTRATIVE, TECHNICAL, ADVISORY, TRAINING, AND FIRE CODE ENFORCEMENT WORK IN DIRECTING AND MANAGING ACTIVITIES OF FIRE ADMINISTRATION, SUPPRESSION, PREVENTION AND CONTROL, EMERGENCY MEDICAL RESPONSE AND RESCUE, HAZARDOUS MATERIALS, EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT, AND PUBLIC FIRE SAFETY EDUCATION. WORK IS PERFORMED INDEPENDENTLY IN ACCORDANCE WITH CITY AND DEPARTMENTAL POLICY AND NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION STANDARDS AND IS PERFORMED WITH CONSIDERABLE TACT, COURTESY AND FIRMNESS UNDER BROADLY OUTLINED OBJECTIVES AND LIMITED SUPERVISION OF THE CITY MANAGER. QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS A 4-YEAR DEGREE IN FIRE ADMINISTRATION/SCIENCE AND 10 OR MORE YEARS PROGRESSIVELY RESPONSIBLE EXPERIENCE IN A MUNICIPAL FIRE DEPARTMENT (3 OF WHICH MUST BE AT OR ABOVE THE DIVISION/DISTRICT CHIEF LEVEL) OR ANY COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE SUFFICIENT TO DEMONSTRATE THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES TO PERFORM THE IDENTIFIED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. ADDITIONALLY, THE QUALIFIED CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS A VALID NCDL (OR ABILITY TO OBTAIN WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF HIRE); CERTIFICATION AS FIRE SERVICE INSTRUCTOR II AND FIRE INSPECTOR III; AND, ABILITY TO MEET AND MAINTAIN QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION AS ESTABLISHED BY THE DEPARTMENT AND/OR CITY. SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE NATIONAL FIRE ACADEMY’S EXECUTIVE FIRE OFFICER PROGRAM IS HIGHLY DESIRABLE.
