THE TOWN OF ABERDEEN, A GROWING COMMUNITY LOCATED ADJACENT TO PINEHURST AND SOUTHERN PINES, IS SEEKING AN EXPERIENCED INDIVIDUAL TO JOIN OUR TEAM AS THE TOWN’S NEXT FINANCE DIRECTOR. ABERDEEN AND THE SURROUNDING SANDHILLS REGION OF NORTH CAROLINA OFFER AN APPEALING QUALITY OF LIFE THAT PROVIDES SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE. ABERDEEN IS A COMMERCIAL, INDUSTRIAL, AND RAILROAD HUB LOCATED IN SOUTHERN MOORE COUNTY, AND A THRIVING TOWN FULL OF HISTORICAL CHARM. THE FINANCE DIRECTOR’S PRIMARY DUTIES CONSIST OF MANAGING THE TOWN’S ANNUAL BUDGET OF $13.5 MILLION AND ENSURING THAT THE TOWN’S ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE FUNCTIONS AND OPERATIONS ARE COMPLETED TIMELY, ACCURATELY AND EFFICIENTLY; AND THAT THEY ARE COMPLIANT WITH ALL FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL LAWS, ORDINANCES AND REGULATIONS. THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE FOR THIS POSITION WILL LEAD THE TOWN’S FINANCE TEAM, WHICH CURRENTLY CONSISTS OF A FINANCE TECHNICIAN, ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN/PURCHASING AGENT, AND TWO PART-TIME CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES. THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL PERFORM TECHNICAL, PROFESSIONAL AND MANAGEMENT WORK PLANNING, ORGANIZING, AND DIRECTING A DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FINANCIAL OPERATIONS FOR THE TOWN. THIS POSITION WILL REQUIRE ABOVE AVERAGE ABILITIES TO BUILD INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS, MANAGE MULTIPLE PROJECTS WITH COMPETING DEADLINES IN A FAST-PACED ENVIRONMENT, EXHIBIT EXCELLENT ORAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS, DEMONSTRATE GRANT MANAGEMENT CAPABILITIES, EXPERIENCE WITH A SOPHISTICATED FINANCIAL SOFTWARE SYSTEM, AND A BROAD WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS INCLUDING UTILITY CASH MANAGEMENT. REQUIREMENTS: BACHELOR’S DEGREE FROM AN ACCREDITED UNIVERSITY, WITH A PREFERENCE OF MAJOR COURSE WORK IN FINANCE, ACCOUNTING, OR RELATED FIELD IS A MINIMUM REQUIREMENT. A MINIMUM OF 8 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN A FINANCE FIELD IS REQUIRED, IN ADDITION TO A MINIMUM OF 4 YEARS SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE. NORTH CAROLINA LOCAL GOVERNMENT FINANCE EXPERIENCE PREFERRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED. EXCELLENT COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIRED. MUST POSSESS A VALID NC DRIVER’S LICENSE AND ABILITY TO WORK FLEXIBLE HOURS, INCLUDING OCCASIONAL BOARD MEETINGS AS NEEDED. THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT MUST BE ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG SCREEN, BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, AND CREDIT CHECK. SALARY RANGE: $70,000 - $82,000, WITH EXCELLENT BENEFITS PACKAGE INCLUDING 5% 401-K CONTRIBUTION, LOCAL GOVERNMENTAL EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT SYSTEM MEMBERSHIP, PAID MEDICAL, DENTAL AND LIFE INSURANCE, 12 PAID HOLIDAYS + PAID BIRTHDAY DAY OFF, VACATION AND SICK LEAVE, AND ANNUAL LONGEVITY PAYMENT.
