THE PLANNER OVERSEES THE OPERATIONS AND ACTIVITIES OF THE PLANNING DIVISION WITHIN THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT, SUPERVISES STAFF, AND IMPLEMENTS PLANS, POLICIES, AND DEVELOPMENTAL MEASURES IN ORDER TO ASSURE ORDERLY GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF CURRENT AND LONG-RANGE PLANS FOR THE TOWN. THESE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE NOT INTENDED TO BE ALL-INCLUSIVE. EMPLOYEE MAY PERFORM OTHER RELATED DUTIES AS NEGOTIATED TO MEET THE ONGOING NEEDS OF THE TOWN. FORMULATES AND COMMUNICATES TO TOWN OFFICIALS AND THE PUBLIC PROPOSED PLANS, POLICIES, DEVELOPMENTAL MEASURES, AND DOCUMENTS DETAILING PRESENT AND FUTURE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES FOR THE TOWN. RESEARCHES AND PREPARES ORDINANCE AMENDMENTS FOR THE TOWN’S UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE, COMPREHENSIVE PLAN, AND OTHER LONG-TERM PLANS; PRESENT PROPOSED AMENDMENTS AT TOWN COUNCIL MEETINGS. RESEARCHES PLANNING ISSUES AND TOPICS PERTAINING TO THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE TOWN AND PREPARES ZONING RECOMMENDATIONS. RESPONDS TO INQUIRIES FROM OFFICIALS, COMMITTEES, AND THE PUBLIC REGARDING PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS. CONDUCTS FIELD INVESTIGATIONS TO ENSURE COMPLIANCE WITH PLANNING REGULATIONS. REVIEWS RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL BUILDING PERMIT APPLICATIONS FOR COMPLIANCE WITH TOWN ZONING ORDINANCES INCLUDING SETBACKS, LANDSCAPING, SIGNAGE, AND WETLAND PROTECTION REGULATIONS. SERVES ON THE PLANNING BOARD AND THE ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT BY PREPARING MEETING AGENDAS AND MAKING PRESENTATIONS. ACTS AS LEAD FOR THE TECHNICAL REVIEW COMMITTEE (TRC) BY PREPARING MEETING AGENDAS AND FACILITATING MEETINGS. WORK WITH CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER ON ZONING ORDINANCE INTERPRETATIONS AND VIOLATIONS. PERFORMS TASKS TO MAINTAIN THE TREE CITY USA CERTIFICATION FOR THE TOWN. PERFORMS SITE PLAN REVIEW AND SUBDIVISION REVIEW. COLLECTS A VARIETY OF STATISTICAL DATA AND PREPARES REPORTS AND MAPS ON TOPICS WHICH MAY INCLUDE CENSUS INFORMATION, LAND USE, TAX BASE DATA, AND OCCUPANCY RATES. MAINTAINS GIS DATABASE; USES GIS FOR ANALYSIS, MAP CREATION, AND DATA MANAGEMENT. PRODUCES AND MAINTAINS INTERACTIVE ONLINE MAPS FOR TOWN STAFF AND THE PUBLIC. DEVELOPS AND MAINTAINS PROFESSIONAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH RELEVANT LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL AGENCIES. APPRAISES DAMAGES RESULTING FROM NATURAL DISASTERS. PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES OF A SIMILAR NATURE OR LEVEL. EMPLOYEE WORKS IN CONJUNCTION WITH BUILDING INSPECTOR TO PREPARE THE ANNUAL BUDGET FOR THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT. ASSESSES SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT FEES FOR WATER/SEWER. A BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN PLANNING OR A CLOSELY RELATED FIELD AND SEVEN (7) YEARS OF PROGRESSIVELY RESPONSIBLE PROFESSIONAL LEVEL PLANNING EXPERIENCE; OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE SUFFICIENT TO SUCCESSFULLY PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE JOB.
