TYPE:FULL TIME SALARY/PAY RATE:$45,000-50,000/YEAR DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE DEADLINE TO APPLY:10/31/2019 THE CITY OF ALBEMARLE IS SEEKING A HIGH PERFORMING LOCAL GOVERNMENT PROFESSIONAL WITH A CAN-DO ATTITUDE TO SERVE AS THE CITY CLERK/ASSISTANT TO THE CITY MANAGER. THE CITY CLERK/ASSISTANT TO THE CITY MANAGER POSITION IS AN ESSENTIAL TEAM MEMBER OF THE CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE (CMO). THIS POSITION PERFORMS THE STATUTORY DUTIES OF CITY CLERK, INCLUDING RESPONSIBILITY FOR SAFE-KEEPING OF OFFICIAL CITY DOCUMENTS AND THE CITY SEAL; PREPARATION AND COMPILATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING AGENDA; TAKING MINUTES, COMPLETING FOLLOW-UP ON COUNCIL ACTIONS AND ASSURING THAT LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR COUNCIL ACTIONS ARE FOLLOWED AND RECORDS ARE KEPT ACCORDINGLY. ADDITIONALLY, THIS POSITION WILL MANAGE COMPLEX, PROFESSIONAL LEVEL ADMINISTRATIVE AND PROJECT WORK FOR THE CITY MANAGER, ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER AND CITY COUNCIL. THE SKILLSET FOR THIS ROLE REQUIRES A PROFESSIONAL WITH STRONG INTERPERSONAL SKILLS, EXCELLENT JUDGEMENT AND DECISION MAKING AND THE ABILITY TO WORK EFFECTIVELY WITH THE COMMUNITY, ELECTED OFFICIALS AND EMPLOYEES AT ALL LEVELS OF THE ORGANIZATION. MUST HAVE EXCELLENT EDITING, PROOFING AND WRITING SKILLS. (A COMPLETE JOB POSTING IS AVAILABLE UNDER EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES AT ALBEMARLENC.GOV) QUALIFICATIONS • AN ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE IN BUSINESS OR RELATED FIELD AND CONSIDERABLE EXPERIENCE AS AN EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT OR HIGHER LEVEL WILL BE CONSIDERED. • BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN PUBLIC OR BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AND THREE YEARS OF INCREASINGLY RESPONSIBLE HIGH LEVEL ADMINISTRATIVE/ MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE IS STRONGLY PREFERRED. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS • MUST BE WILLING AND AVAILABLE TO WORK LATE NIGHTS AND OVERTIME. • MUST ESTABLISH RESIDENCY IN STANLY COUNTY, OR A CONTIGUOUS COUNTY, WITHIN SIX MONTHS OF THE DATE OF EMPLOYMENT. • OBTAIN CERTIFICATION AS A CITY CLERK AS ISSUED BY THE UNC SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENT AND MAINTAIN MEMBERSHIP IN THE NORTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF MUNICIPAL CLERKS (NCAMC). • OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN MEMBERSHIP IN THE INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF MUNICIPAL CLERKS. • POSSESSION AND MAINTENANCE OF NOTARY PUBLIC COMMISSION. • VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE IN THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA.
