ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY INVITES CANDIDATES FOR OUR CHIEF OF EMERGENCY SERVICES POSITION, WHICH IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PERFORMING ADMINISTRATIVE, OPERATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL WORK BY PROVIDING DIRECTION AND SUPPORT TO AGENCIES SERVING THE COUNTY IN AREAS OF FIRE PROTECTION, EMERGENCY MEDICAL RESPONSE, AND DISASTER SUPPORT SERVICES. ADDITIONALLY, THE WORK INVOLVES PLANNING AND DIRECTING THE COUNTY’S OVERALL OPERATION OF FIRE/EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES, DISASTER PREPARATION RESPONSE AND RECOVERY, PERSONNEL AND PUBLIC INFORMATION MATTERS, AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES. REPORTS TO THE COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR. ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY IN COASTAL VIRGINIA CONSISTS OF OVER 300 SQUARE MILES WITH TWO TOWNS (TOWN OF SMITHFIELD AND TOWN OF WINDSOR) WITHIN ITS BOUNDARIES AND A POPULATION OF OVER 37,000 RESIDENTS. WHILE THE COUNTY IS PART OF THE VIRGINIA BEACH – NORFOLK - NEWPORT NEWS METROPOLITAN STATISTICAL AREA, ITS RESIDENTS HAVE THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS WITH RURAL HERITAGE, CULTURAL TRADITION OF ARTS AND FESTIVALS, VIBRANT SMALL TOWNS, RICH HISTORY, MULTITUDE OF LEISURE ACTIVITIES, AND A TOP QUALITY SCHOOL SYSTEM. ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY DELIVERS A VARIETY OF SERVICES AND OPERATES WITH A FY 2020 ANNUAL OPERATING AND CAPITAL BUDGET OF $170 MILLION AND CURRENTLY HOLDS A AA+ BOND RATING. ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY IS THE COMMUNITY OF CHOICE THAT CARES, DEDICATED TO CHOICE, ACCOUNTABILITY, RURAL HERITAGE, EXCELLENCE, AND SERVICE. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRES A BACHELOR’S DEGREE AND A MINIMUM OF FIFTEEN (15) YEARS OF PROGRESSIVELY RESPONSIBLE RELATED EXPERIENCE. REQUIRES A VALID VIRGINIA OPERATOR PERMIT THROUGHOUT EMPLOYMENT. REQUIRES CERTIFICATION IN CPR, EMT-BASIC (ALS PROVIDER PREFERRED), HAZARDOUS MATERIALS AWARENESS/OPERATIONS, FIRE OFFICER III (FIRE OFFICER IV PREFERRED), NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800. VIRGINIA PROFESSIONAL EMERGENCY MANAGER CERTIFICATION OR CERTIFIED EMERGENCY MANAGER CERTIFICATION PREFERRED. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS PACKAGE: SALARY WILL BE DEPENDENT UPON THE QUALIFICATIONS OF THE SELECTED CANDIDATE AND IS EXPECTED TO BE WITHIN THE HIRING RANGE OF $87,245 – $113,419 (MID) – $139,592. THE COUNTY’S TOTAL COMPENSATION PACKAGE INCLUDES THE VIRGINIA RETIREMENT SYSTEM PARTICIPATION, PAID VACATION AND SICK LEAVE, MEDICAL AND DENTAL INSURANCE, DEFERRED COMPENSATION PROGRAMS, SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCE PROGRAMS, GROUP LIFE INSURANCE, PROFESSIONAL DUES AND CONTINUING EDUCATION EXPENSES.
