THE TOWN OF APEX IS SEEKING A TECH-SAVVY WATER RESOURCES DIRECTOR WHO IS EXPERIENCED WITH RAPID GROWTH COMMUNITIES TO LEAD THE WATER RESOURCES DEPARTMENT. THE NEXT DIRECTOR WILL BE OUTSTANDING IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND LEAD WITH A CUSTOMER SERVICE FOCUS THAT EFFECTIVELY COORDINATES WITH ALL INTERNAL DEPARTMENTS IN THE TOWN, EXTERNAL STAKEHOLDERS, AND WORKS TO MEET TOWN GOALS. THE WATER RESOURCES DEPARTMENT WORKS HARD TO MAINTAIN EXCELLENCE IN PROTECTING THE HEALTH, SAFETY, AND WELFARE OF APEX'S EMPLOYEES AND RESIDENTS. THE POSITION IS OPEN DUE TO AN INTERNAL PROMOTION. WATER RESOURCES DEPARTMENT AND POSITION OVERVIEW: REPORTING TO THE ASSISTANT TOWN MANAGER, THE WATER RESOURCES DIRECTOR WILL OVERSEE A DEPARTMENT WITH 70 EMPLOYEES WORKING IN FOUR DIVISIONS: INFRASTRUCTURE INSPECTIONS, STORMWATER AND UTILITY ENGINEERING, WATER AND SEWER UTILITY OPERATIONS, AND WATER RECLAMATION. WITH A BUDGET OF $25.8 MILLION (INCLUDING A $23.5M ENTERPRISE FUND FOR WATER AND SEWER), THE DIRECTOR OVERSEES A DEPARTMENT THAT INTERFACES WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS IN THE TOWN AND HAS EXTENSIVE EXTERNAL CONTACT WITH CITIZENS, BUSINESS LEADERS, BUILDERS AND DEVELOPERS. APEX IS EXPERIENCING SIGNIFICANT AND RAPID GROWTH DUE TO THE TOWN’S NATIONAL PROFILE AS ONE OF THE BEST PLACES TO LIVE AND WORK. UPCOMING PRIORITIES INCLUDE MANAGING A LARGE NUMBER OF ONGOING PROJECTS, LONG-RANGE PLANNING FOR WATER AND WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT, WORKING WITH NEW TECHNOLOGY INCLUDING AN ADVANCED METER INFRASTRUCTURE (AMI) SYSTEM, EVALUATING STAFFING NEEDS AND ENSURING EMPLOYEES HAVE THE TRAINING AND CONTINUING EDUCATION TO BE MAXIMALLY EFFECTIVE, DEVELOPING PUBLIC EDUCATION INITIATIVES TO INFORM CITIZENS ABOUT WATER RESOURCE ISSUES, AND EVALUATION OF AND RECOMMENDATION RELATED TO ESTABLISHING A STORMWATER UTILITY FEE. QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRES A MINIMUM OF A BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN CIVIL ENGINEERING, BIOLOGY, ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES, OR RELATED FIELD AND 10 YEARS OF BREADTH AND DEPTH IN WATER/SEWER UTILITIES AND STORMWATER EXPERIENCE, INCLUDING A MINIMUM OF 5-7 YEARS PROGRESSIVE SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE IN UTILITIES MANAGEMENT. A VALID NORTH CAROLINA DRIVER’S LICENSE IS REQUIRED. PE LICENSURE IS STRONGLY PREFERRED ALONG WITH LOCAL GOVERNMENT FAMILIARITY. THE SALARY RANGE IS $94,061 TO 154,837 WITH AN EXPECTED HIRING RANGE OF $94,061 - 124,449. BEGINNING SALARY WILL BE COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS.
