BUILIDING CODE/MINIMUM HOUSING INSPECTOR SALARY GRADE 58 SALARY RANGE $35,146 - $52,719 THE INSPECTIONS DEPARTMENT IS SEEKING A QUALIFIED INDIVIDUAL TO SERVE AS A FULL-TIME BUILDING CODE/MINIMUM HOUSING INSPECTOR. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • CONDUCTS INSPECTIONS OF NEW CONSTRUCTION AND IMPROVEMENTS; PROVIDES TIMELY REPORTS OF FINDINGS TO CONTRACTORS. • INSPECTS ALL MOBILE HOMES WHICH MOVE INTO OR OUT OF THE TOWN LIMITS FOR PROPER INSTALLATION, ELECTRICAL AND PLUMBING CONNECTIONS OR DISCONNECTIONS. • INSURES ORDINANCES PERTAINING TO MOBILE HOMES ARE ENFORCED. • INSURES THE ZONING AND SUBDIVISION ORDINANCES ARE ENFORCED; MAKES INSPECTIONS AS NEEDED. • MEETS WITH ALL PUBLIC OFFICIALS, BUILDERS, CONTRACTORS AND ENGINEERS ON ALL MATTERS PERTAINING TO CODES AND CODE ENFORCEMENT, BUILDING CONSTRUCTION, MATERIALS, AND BUILDING PRACTICES. • INSPECTS STRUCTURES FOR MINIMUM HOUSING ORDINANCE VIOLATIONS. • EXAMINES EXISTING BUILDINGS IN THE TOWN; JUDGES COMPLIANCE WITH APPLICABLE MINIMUM HOUSING CODES; EXPLAINS NECESSARY CHANGES/IMPROVEMENTS TO PROPERTY OWNER OR CONTRACTOR; ISSUES NECESSARY PERMITS. • ENFORCES REGULATIONS REQUIRING ACCESS TO BUILDINGS BY THE PHYSICALLY DISABLED PERSONS. • ASSISTS CONTRACTORS AND CITIZENS WITH QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS AND PROVIDES RELEVANT INFORMATION. • INSPECTS ABANDONED OR DEFECTIVE BUILDINGS; NOTIFIES OWNERS OF NEED FOR CORRECTIVE ACTION; CONDEMNS HAZARDOUS BUILDINGS. • ATTENDS SCHOOLS AND CONFERENCES TO MAINTAIN CURRENT CERTIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE OF CODES AND METHODS AND MATERIALS USED IN CONSTRUCTING BUILDINGS. • KEEPS RECORDS AND PREPARES REPORTS. • ENFORCES ALL APPLICABLE TOWN ORDINANCES AND GENERAL STATUTES RELATING TO MINIMUM HOUSING AND CODE ENFORCEMENT. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • ANY COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE EQUIVALENT TO GRADUATION FROM HIGH SCHOOL WITH CONSIDERABLE EXPERIENCE IN THE CONSTRUCTION FIELD, PREFERABLY PERFORMING INSPECTIONS WORK IN A LOCAL GOVERNMENT; OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE. • TECHNICALLY QUALIFIED ADMINISTRATIVE AND ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL WITH A BASIC KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE PRINCIPALS OF CONSTRUCTION. • KNOWLEDGE OF THE STANDARDS UNDER WHICH MATERIALS ARE PROCURED AND USED, OF TESTS AND TESTING PROCEDURES, AS WELL AS THE SPECIFIC APPLICATION AND INSTALLATION OF MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS. • A BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF BUILDING LAWS, PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS. • VALID NC STATE DRIVER’S LICENSE. • PREFERRED BY THE NORTH CAROLINA CODE OFFICIAL’S QUALIFICATION BOARD AT LEVEL I IN AT LEAST ONE OF THE TRADES OF BUILDING, PLUMBING, ELECTRICAL, AND MECHANICAL. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A DRUG SCREENING, CRIMINAL AND EMPLOYMENT BACKGROUND CHECK, AND DRIVING RECORD CHECK ARE REQUIRED AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT.
