DISTRIBUTION & COLLECTION SYSTEM SUPERVISOR GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES PERFORMS RESPONSIBLE TECHNICAL WORK SUPERVISING A CREW ENGAGED IN THE OPERATION, REPAIR, REPLACEMENT AND INSTALLATION OF DISTRIBUTION AND COLLECTION SYSTEM LINES AND APPURTENANCES. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS CLASS SUPERVISES A CREW ENGAGED IN A VARIETY OF WORK ASSOCIATED WITH MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR OF WATER DISTRIBUTION AND SEWER COLLECTION SYSTEM SERVICES TO CITIZENS. WORK INCLUDES SUPERVISING AND PARTICIPATING IN THE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR OF WATER AND SEWER LINES, HYDRANTS, ELEVATED AND OTHER STORAGE TANKS, METERS AND VALVES. WORK ALSO INCLUDES RESPONSIBILITY FOR OBTAINING SUPPLIES AND MATERIALS, OPERATION AND CARE OF EQUIPMENT, DETERMINING THE PRIORITY OF AND ASSIGNING CREW TO PROJECTS; INSPECTING WORK; AND ANSWERING AND RESOLVING PUBLIC COMPLAINTS. THE EMPLOYEE SERVES AS ORC (OPERATOR IN RESPONSIBLE CHARGE) OF THE DISTRIBUTION AND COLLECTION SYSTEM AND CROSS CONTROL AND BACKFLOW PREVENTION PROGRAM. WORK REQUIRES CONSIDERABLE INTERPERSONAL AND TECHNICAL SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITY FOR CREW SAFETY. THE EMPLOYEE IS SUBJECT TO WORKING IN INSIDE AND OUTSIDE ENVIRONMENTS INCLUDING EXTREME HOT AND COLD WEATHER AND WORK HAZARDS INCLUDING LOUD NOISE, VIBRATIONS, MOVING MECHANICAL PARTS, EXPOSURE TO CHEMICALS, FUMES, ODORS, POOR VENTILATION, AND OILS. THE EMPLOYEE MAY BE REQUIRED TO INSPECT WATER OR SEWER LINE PIPES, UTILITY HOLES OR OTHER SMALL CONFINED SPACES. THE EMPLOYEE PARTICIPATES IN A ROTATING ON-CALL AND EMERGENCY CALL-BACK. WORK IS ALSO SUBJECT TO THE FINAL OSHA STANDARDS ON BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS. WORK IS PERFORMED UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION AND IS REVIEWED FOR CONFORMANCE TO ESTABLISHED SPECIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS, AND PRODUCTIVITY OF THE UNIT. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS SUPERVISES AND PARTICIPATES WITH EMPLOYEES IN THE INSTALLATION, MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR OF WATER AND SEWER LINES, HYDRANTS, METERS, AND VALVES; SUPERVISES AND PARTICIPATES IN THE INSTALLATION OF NEW TAPS. INSPECTS SITES FOR NEW TAPS AND/OR LINES; DETERMINES PROPER CONNECTION POINT TO SYSTEM; DETERMINES PROPER PLACEMENT OF TAPS, HYDRANTS, VALVES; PERFORMS LOCATES FOR OTHER UTILITIES AND CONTRACTORS. ENSURES THE AVAILABILITY OF EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS AND STAFF FOR ASSIGNED TASKS. INSTRUCTS WORKERS IN THE APPROPRIATE WORK METHODS AND SAFETY PROCEDURES AND ENSURES THEIR USE. KEEPS RECORDS; PREPARES REPORTS; PREPARES MATERIAL AND SUPPLY REQUISITIONS; MAINTAINS ADEQUATE INVENTORY AND APPROPRIATE RECORDS. RESPONDS TO CITIZEN REQUESTS, CONCERNS, AND ISSUES; PERFORMS FIELD REVIEW; MEETS WITH CITIZENS. SERVES AS ORC (OPERATOR IN RESPONSIBLE) CHARGE OF GRADE I COLLECTION AND GRADE C DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS AND THE CROSS CONTROL AND BACKFLOW PREVENTION PROGRAM. MOTIVATES, COACHES, AND CONDUCTS PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF EMPLOYEES; ENSURES PROPER TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION OF ASSIGNED PERSONNEL; RECOMMENDS AND PARTICIPATES IN HIRING AND DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS.
