AS PART OF THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT THE GIS TECHNICIAN PERFORMS TECHNICAL WORK AND PROVIDES TECHNICAL SUPPORT FOR GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS) PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION AND OPERATION, CREATING, TESTING AND ENHANCING GIS APPLICATIONS, DEVELOPING AND ADMINISTERING WEB-BASED GIS APPLICATIONS, PREPARING GIS DATASETS, AND MAPS. THIS EMPLOYEE IS REQUIRED TO BE A PROFESSIONAL IN BOTH A GIS AND CUSTOMER SERVICE CAPACITY. WORK INVOLVES EXTENSIVE KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY TO PERFORM A DIVERSE ARRAY OF TECHNICAL GIS RELATED WORK. THE EMPLOYEE WILL CREATE, TEST AND ENHANCE GIS OPERATIONS; DEVELOP AND ADMINISTER WEB-BASED APPLICATIONS. PROVIDE TECHNICAL SUPPORT FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION AND OPERATION OF GIS PROJECTS. PREPARE GIS DATABASES, MAPS, DATABASE REPORTS AND SPECIALIZED QUERIES IN SUPPORT OF VARIOUS PROJECTS. PERFORM GIS ANALYSIS TO SUPPORT DECISION MAKING. GENERATE, MAINTAIN AND DISSEMINATE GIS DATA. OPERATE AND MAINTAIN GIS SOFTWARE AND WEB-BASED APPLICATIONS. OPERATE GPS UNIT AND SOFTWARE. PRODUCE COMPLEX MAPS FOR DEPARTMENTS AND OUTSIDE AGENCIES. UPDATES JURISDICTION BOUNDARIES, ZONING DISTRICTS, FIRE & POLICE DISTRICTS, UTILITY SERVICE AREAS, ETC. TRAIN USERS ON NEW AND EXISTING GIS AND ESRI PRODUCTS. WORK IS PERFORMED UNDER THE GENERAL SUPERVISION OF THE GIS ADMINISTRATOR .PERFORMS OTHER RELATED DUTIES AS REQUIRED. THE EMPLOYEE SHOULD POSSESS CONSIDERABLE KNOWLEDGE OF ESRI GIS SOFTWARE (ARCGIS DESKTOP, ARCCATALOG, ARCGIS ONLINE, ARCPRO); TRIMBLE GEO7X SURVEY GRADE GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEMS (GPS) OR SIMILAR UNIT AND SOFTWARE; CARTOGRAPHIC PRINCIPLES, MAPPING, GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS) DATABASE DESIGN AND STRUCTURE; GIS HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE COMPONENTS, DATA COMMUNICATION AND NETWORK METHODS AND TECHNIQUES; AND OFFICE-ASSOCIATED SOFTWARE (I.E., MICROSOFT ACCESS, EXCEL, WORD, ETC.). THE EMPLOYEE SHOULD HAVE THE ABILITY TO DEAL TACTFULLY AND COURTEOUSLY WITH THE PUBLIC; TO PREPARE WRITTEN AND ORAL PRESENTATIONS; AND TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER STAFF, MANAGEMENT, THE GENERAL PUBLIC, AND OTHERS ENCOUNTERED IN THE COURSE OF WORK. THIS IS MEDIUM WORK REQUIRING THE EXERTION OF UP TO 50 POUNDS OF FORCE OCCASIONALLY, AND/OR UP TO 20 POUNDS OF FORCE FREQUENTLY, AND/OR UP 10 POUNDS OF FORCE CONSTANTLY TO MOVE OBJECTS. WORK IS PERFORMED BOTH IN AN ENVIRONMENTALLY CONTROLLED OFFICE ENVIRONMENT AS WELL AS OUTSIDE ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS. SALARY: THE POSITION IS IN PAY GRADE 13 WITH A SALARY RANGE OF $36,912- $56,171, DEPENDING ON QUALIFICATIONS. FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT. EDUCATION: GRADUATION FROM AN ACCREDITED COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY WITH A BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN GIS, GEOGRAPHY, PLANNING OR RELATED FIELD. EXPERIENCE: ONE (1) TO FOUR (4) YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN GIS SYSTEM DESIGN AND/OR MAPPING, OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE TO PROVIDE THE REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES.
