ASSISTANT PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER VACANCY # ADM062019-12, POSITION #71 AS PART OF THE ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT, THE ASSISTANT PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR DEVELOPING AND EXECUTING PUBLIC INFORMATION RELATED PROGRAM THAT COMMUNICATE AND SUPPORT CFPUA’S VISION, MISSION, AND VALUES. THE INCUMBENT RESEARCHES AND COMPOSES NEWS RELEASES, MEDIA ADVISORIES, SOCIAL MEDIA POSTINGS, BROCHURES, SPEECHES, TALKING POINTS, ADVERTISEMENTS, ONLINE CONTENTS AND OTHER CONTENT TO INFORM THE PUBLIC AND OTHERS ABOUT THE ACTIVITIES OF CFPUA; SUPPORTS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S OFFICE AND OTHER CFPUA DEPARTMENT IN COMMUNICATING CFPUA’S MESSAGE TO THE PUBLIC AND THE MEDIA; ASSISTS IN THE CREATION OF CONTENT FOR INTERNAL COMMUNICATION WITH CFPUA EMPLOYEES; EDITS MATERIALS CREATED BY STAFF; ADVISES STAFF REGARDING PUBLICITY, MEDIA RELATIONS, AND COMMUNICATION TECHNIQUES; SERVES AS A SPOKESPERSON FOR CFPUA, INCLUDING PROVIDING INTERVIEWS FOR RADIO AND TELEVISION BROADCAST, PRINT, AND ONLINE; RESPONDS TO MEDIA INQUIRIES; ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN MEDIA CONTACTS AND MONITORS NEWS COVERAGE OF EVENTS AND INITIATIVES; PROVIDES VERIFIED INFORMATION TO MEDIA AND RESPONDS TO INACCURATE INFORMATION; PROACTIVELY PITCHES STORIES TO MEDIA; COMPILES MEDIA REPORTS, AS REQUIRED, TO DOCUMENT THE DEPARTMENT’S MILESTONES AND ACHIEVEMENTS. ADDITIONALLY, THE ASSISTANT PIO ASSISTS THE PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER WITH ARRANGING AND DEVELOPING CONTENT FOR COMMUNITY OUTREACH ACTIVITIES; WRITES, EDITS, AND MAINTAINS CONTENT FOR CFPUA’S WEBSITE ENSURING CONTENT IS WELL ORGANIZED, UP TO DATE, AND ACCURATE; AND MAINTAINS THE CONFIDENTIALITY OF INFORMATION HANDLED IN THE COURSE OF PERFORMING ASSIGNED SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES. THE POSITION REQUIRES A BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN PUBLIC RELATIONS, JOURNALISM, COMMUNICATIONS, COMMUNICATIONS DESIGN, WEB DESIGN, OR A CLOSELY RELATED FIELD, FIVE (5) YEARS OF WORK EXPERIENCE IN PUBLIC RELATIONS, PUBLIC AFFAIRS, JOURNALISM AND/OR COMMUNICATIONS, INCLUDING WORK IN A GOVERNMENTAL ARENA, AND POSSESSION OF OR ABILITY TO OBTAIN A VALID STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA DRIVER'S LICENSE. FEMA/NIMS TRAINING INCLUDING 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 702, AND 704 CERTIFICATIONS ARE REQUIRED OR MUST BE ACQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR. THE POSITION IS A PAY RANGE 30 WITH A HIRING RANGE OF $51,067-$66,590. HIRING SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED BASED ON QUALIFICATIONS AND INTERNAL EQUITY.
