GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: PERFORMS INTERMEDIATE TECHNICAL WORK FOR A VARIETY OF ENGINEERING DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND RELATED ASSIGNMENTS; DOES RELATED WORK AS REQUIRED. WORK IS PERFORMED UNDER REGULAR SUPERVISION. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS: (THE FOLLOWING TASKS ARE INTENDED ONLY AS ILLUSTRATIONS OF THE VARIOUS TYPES OF WORK PERFORMED. THE OMISSION OF SPECIFIC DUTIES DOES NOT EXCLUDE THEM FROM THE POSITION IF THE WORK IS SIMILAR, RELATED, OR A LOGICAL ASSIGNMENT TO THE POSITION.) • REVIEWS CONSTRUCTION PLANS, MONITORS, AND CONDUCTS ON-SITE INSPECTIONS TO ENSURE COMPLIANCE WITH LOCAL AND STATE ORDINANCES AND INDUSTRY STANDARDS, SPECIFICATIONS, AND CONSTRUCTION PRACTICES. • KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY TO ENFORCE TOWN CODES AND SAFE CONSTRUCTION PRACTICES. • ASSISTS WITH RIGHT-OF-WAY FOR CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION PROJECTS PERFORMED BY THE TOWN AND THE NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION. • PREPARES AND COMPUTES TECHNICAL DATA; PREPARES PRELIMINARY COST ESTIMATES OF MAINTENANCE, REPAIR AND CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS. • INVESTIGATES DRAINAGE AND CONSTRUCTION CONCERNS. • SEARCHES LEGAL RECORDS TO OBTAIN PROPERTY DESCRIPTIONS; NOTIFIES PROPERTY OWNERS OF PENDING CONSTRUCTION; MAINTAINS RECORD OF PROJECTS. • PROVIDE SUPPORT DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER AND OTHER SPECIAL EVENTS, AND ASSISTS IN FLOOD CONTROL OPERATIONS AND STORM DRAINAGE MAINTENANCE. • PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR MUNICIPAL SEPARATE STORM SEWER SYSTEM (MS4) , ILLICIT DISCHARGE DETECTION AND ELIMINATION (IDDE), AND POLLUTION PREVENTION AND GOOD HOUSEKEEPING (PPGH) ADMINISTRATION AND INSPECTIONS. • SUBMITS DAILY WORK REPORTS AND MAINTAINS RECORDS RELATED TO INSPECTIONS AND ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED FOR CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS. • COORDINATES THE USE OF AVAILABLE EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS, AND STAFF TO BE EFFICIENT AND COST EFFECTIVE • PROVIDES EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND PROMOTES AND MAINTAINS RESPONSIVE COMMUNITY RELATIONS. • PERFORMS RELATED TASKS AS REQUIRED. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: GENERAL KNOWLEDGE OF: BASIC CONSTRUCTION AND CIVIL ENGINEERING PRINCIPLES, PRACTICES AND TECHNIQUES; COMPLIANCE WITH SPECIFICATIONS, CODES, REGULATIONS OF LOCAL AND STATE REQUIREMENTS, AND AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA) REGULATIONS; STORMWATER MANAGEMENT; ENGINEERING; GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS); STANDARD OFFICE PROCEDURES, PRACTICES AND EQUIPMENT. ABILITY TO READ TECHNICAL REPORTS AND TEST RESULTS; ABILITY TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH ASSOCIATES, VENDORS, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC; CURRENT STORMWATER CONTROL MEASURES (SCM) MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION CERTIFICATION OR WILLINGNESS AND ABILITY TO OBTAIN. EDUCATION: DEGREE IN CIVIL ENGINEERING OR CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT OR IN A RELATED FIELD OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE THAT PROVIDES THE REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES TO PERFORM THE DUTIES.
