THE TOWN OF NASHVILLE, NC (POP 5,400) IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR. THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR PLANS, DIRECTS, AND SUPPORTS MUNICIPAL WATER AND SEWER OPERATIONS, STREET MAINTENANCE, SOLID WASTE COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL, BUILDING AND GROUNDS MAINTENANCE, STORM WATER MANAGEMENT, FLEET MAINTENANCE, AND CEMETERY OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE. RESPONSIBILITIES THIS IS A DEPARTMENT HEAD POSITION WITH RESPONSIBILITY FOR BUDGETING, ESTABLISHING AND ENFORCING DEPARTMENTAL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES, SUPERVISION OF 17 FULL-TIME EMPLOYEES, TRAINING OF PERSONNEL, AND DIRECTING THE OPERATIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT. THIS POSITION REPORTS TO THE TOWN MANAGER IN A COUNCIL-MANAGER FORM OF GOVERNMENT. WORK REQUIRES COMPREHENSIVE KNOWLEDGE OF MODERN PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF PUBLIC WORKS ADMINISTRATION. THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO LEAD AND DIRECT THE ACTIVITIES OF PUBLIC WORKS PERSONNEL. THE POSITION REQUIRES THE ABILITY TO MAINTAIN COOPERATIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH TOWN OFFICIALS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC. THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH OPERATING HEAVY EQUIPMENT AND ANALYZING AND RESOLVING COMPLEX MECHANICAL AND OPERATIONAL PROBLEMS. REQUIREMENTS PREFERRED CANDIDATE WILL HAVE A BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN BUSINESS OR PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION, ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES, CIVIL ENGINEERING, CHEMISTRY, OR RELATED FIELD AND EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE MANAGING WATER AND/OR WASTEWATER DISTRIBUTION AND COLLECTION SYSTEMS; OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE. SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE IS PREFERRED. MUST POSSESS A VALID NC CLASS C DRIVER’S LICENSE, BE ABLE TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE OPERATOR-IN-CHARGE FOR THE WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM, AND HAVE A GRADE B DISTRIBUTION CERTIFICATION, GRADE C WELL CERTIFICATION, CROSS CONNECTION CONTROL SYSTEM OPERATOR CERTIFICATION, AND GRADE II COLLECTION SYSTEM OPERATOR CERTIFICATION. RESIDENCY WITHIN THE TOWN OF NASHVILLE IS REQUIRED WITHIN SIX MONTHS, UNLESS AN EXCEPTION IS GRANTED BY THE TOWN MANAGER. MUST PASS AN EXTENSIVE BACKGROUND CHECK AND DRUG SCREEN. HIRING SALARY RANGE IS $50,192-$62,744, DEPENDENT ON EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS.
