POSITION INFORMATION: THIS POSITION PROVIDES TECHNICAL & REGULATORY ASSISTANCE TO PUBLIC WATER SUPPLY SYSTEMS IN THE 16 NORTH CAROLINA COUNTIES SERVED BY THE RALEIGH REGIONAL OFFICE.  THESE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE MONITORING WATER SYSTEM TREATMENT FACILITY OPERATIONS & MONITORING/REPORTING ACTIVITIES, PROVIDING ASSISTANCE & TRAINING TO WATER PLANT OPERATORS, PROVIDING SUPPORT TO WATER SYSTEMS DURING EMERGENCIES & ENFORCING THE NORTH CAROLINA DRINKING WATER ACT & THE "RULES GOVERNING PUBLIC WATER SYSTEMS".  THE EMPLOYEE PERFORMS A WIDE RANGE OF DUTIES SUCH AS CONDUCTING SANITARY SURVEYS, WATER TREATMENT TROUBLE SHOOTING, FIELD INVESTIGATIONS, WATER PLANT & WATER SYSTEM INSPECTIONS, SOURCE WATER ASSESSMENTS & APPROVALS, TECHNICAL & REGULATORY ASSISTANCE TO OPERATORS, ENGINEERS, WATER SUPPLY STAFF & UTILITY PERSONNEL.  THIS POSITION REQUIRES EMPLOYEE TO CURRENTLY HOLD A CERTIFICATION AS AN A-SURFACE WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR BY THE NORTH CAROLINA WATER TREATMENT FACILITY OPERATORS CERTIFICATION BOARD. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: - PROFICIENCY WITH WORD PROCESSING, SPREADSHEETS & DATABASE SYSTEMS - VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE IS REQUIRED - SOME OVERNIGHT TRAVEL IS REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES: **TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR YOUR WORK HISTORY AND CREDENTIALS, YOU MUST LIST THE INFORMATION ON THE APPLICATION. ANY INFORMATION OMITTED FROM THE APPLICATION, LISTED UNDER THE TEXT RESUME SECTION, OR ON AN ATTACHMENT WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR QUALIFYING CREDIT** QUALIFIED APPLICANTS MUST POSSESS, AND THE APPLICATION MUST CLEARLY REFLECT, THE MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS AND WORK EXPERIENCE THAT DEMONSTRATES THE FOLLOWING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: ***CERTIFICATION AS AN A-SURFACE WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR BY THE NORTH CAROLINA WATER TREATMENT FACILITY OPERATORS CERTIFICATION BOARD.*** KNOWLEDGE OF WATER TREATMENT PRINCIPLES, CHEMISTRY, MICROBIOLOGY AND THE CONSTRUCTION, OPERATION, MAINTENANCE AND MONITORING OF VARIOUS TYPES OF WATER TREATMENT FACILITIES. KNOWLEDGE OF THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE FEDERAL SAFE DRINKING WATER ACT, NC DRINKING WATER ACT, AND THE "RULES GOVERNING PUBLIC WATER SYSTEMS". INTERVIEWED CANDIDATES MAY BE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE A SKILLS ASSESSMENT.   MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN ONE OF THE AGRICULTURAL, BIOLOGICAL, ENGINEERING, ENVIRONMENTAL OR NATURAL RESOURCE SCIENCES OR A CLOSELY RELATED CURRICULUM FROM AN APPROPRIATELY ACCREDITED INSTITUTION AND TWO (2) YEARS OF EXPERIENCE RELATED TO THE AREA OF ASSIGNMENT; OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE.
