THE TOWN OF BLACK MOUNTAIN, WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE WESTERN PART OF NORTH CAROLINA, IS SEEKING QUALIFIED CANDIDATES FOR THE POSITION OF FIRE CHIEF. THE BLACK MOUNTAIN FIRE DEPARTMENT IS COMPRISED OF THREE STATIONS THAT PROVIDES FIRE/MEDICAL AND RESCUE SERVICES TO OVER 47 SQUARE MILES OF TOWN AND RURAL DISTRICT. THE FIRE CHIEF WILL REPORT TO THE TOWN MANAGER AND IS ASSISTED BY A DEPUTY FIRE CHIEF, THREE BATTALION CHIEFS, AND THREE LIEUTENANTS ALONG WITH A CREW OF FULL-TIME, PART-TIME, AND VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS THAT COMPRISE A, B, AND C SHIFTS FOR ROTATIONS OF 24 ON AND 48 OFF. THE CHIEF IS RESPONSIBLE FOR DEVELOPING AND MANAGING THE OPERATING AND CAPITAL BUDGET FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WITH AN EXAMPLE CLOSING JUNE 30, 2018 AT $1,612,000 IN ACTUAL EXPENDITURES. CANDIDATES MUST POSSESS A BACHELOR’S DEGREE WITH FIVE YEARS OF UPPER-COMMAND SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE AND A MINIMUM OF TEN YEARS OF CROSS-FUNCTIONAL AND PROGRESSIVELY RESPONSIBLE EXPERIENCE TO INCLUDE FIRE SUPPRESSION, PREVENTION, EMS AND ADMINISTRATIVE WORK. THE FULL SALARY RANGE IS $60,708-$91,073, WITH A HIRING RANGE OF $60,708-$75,913. THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY IN BOTH ORAL AND WRITTEN FORMATS ALONG WITH HAVING AN OUTSTANDING RECORD OF LEADING THEIR STAFF IN A PROGRESSIVE MANNER. ALSO, A WILLINGNESS AND ABILITY TO WORK COHESIVELY WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS IS ESSENTIAL AS IT BUILDS BRIDGES TO SUCCESS FOR THE WHOLE TEAM ALONG WITH INCREASING WORK PRODUCTIVITY METHODS FOR ALL EMPLOYEES INVOLVED. THIS INDIVIDUAL WILL NEED TO BUILD AND CULTIVATE EFFECTIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH EACH STAFF MEMBER, ELECTED OFFICIALS, CITIZENS, TOWN MANAGER, OTHER DEPARTMENTS, AS WELL AS OTHER EMERGENCY SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS.
