July 20, 2018

Please find linked below the League's 2018 End of Session Bulletin, featuring an in-depth look at this year's legislative short session and all of its effects on cities and towns. This document includes summaries of the numerous bills that the League tracked, lobbied or impacted in some way during the session. This is also a proper time to thank you for your involvement. The 2018 short session of the North Carolina General Assembly was one of the quickest in recent memory. Still, lawmakers delivered on big proposals and passages, including adjustments to the biennial state budget, the priority focus for most of the session, setting out numerous wins for cities and towns. Your eagerness to stay focused on legislative issues important to cities and towns -- exhibited by your correspondence, direct contact with lawmakers, presence at the Legislative Building in Raleigh and participation in League activities -- helped immensely in the passage of beneficial provisions, along with the parking of proposals that could have done harm.
Coming off this period of hard work, we'd like to invite you to CityVision 2018, the League's annual conference, set for Sept. 19-21 in Hickory. CityVision will offer the best opportunity for municipal officials from around the state to dive deep into issues like broadband and technology, infrastructure, branding your municipality and, most of all, grants -- finding the money you need to prepare your municipality for tomorrow. Pre-registration ends Friday, Aug. 24, so register early to avoid increased walk-in registration fees.
