Other associations to use 'Slower is Faster' for driver safety

Both the N.C. Justice Academy and the Association of Law Enforcement Emergency Response Trainers, as well as the Georgia Municipal Association, have asked to use a video produced by the North Carolina League of Municipalities (NCLM) in order to educate police officers and others about safe pursuit driving techniques.

The video, Slower is Faster,” was produced by NCLM Risk Management Services with significant contributions and input from Hillsborough Town Manager Eric Peterson, who is also an acclaimed race car driver with years of training experience. The 27-minute video was part of several police driver training seminars that NCLM held across North Carolina in March. The video and the seminars were geared around helping police departments reduce the number of claims against a department. (You can read more about the seminars and the video in both the April and May issues of Southern City.)

“This was not expected, but we are delighted that both the Justice Academy and the Law Enforcement Emergency Response Trainers have found this video helpful enough to include in their training,” said Bob Haynes, NCLM associate director of risk management and member services.

Our Mission

To administer high quality insurance trusts, provide professional service and to always be accountable to the membership through the leadership of the Board of Trustees and the knowledge and dedication of a higly trained staff.

The League offers its members the opportunity to participate in one or more of three, self-funded governmental insurance pools. These pools provide workers' compensation, health benefits, property and liability coverages.

What are self-funded pools?

A vehicle that allows mid- to smaller-sized municipalities the ability to self insure collectively serving as an alternative to insurance from commercial companies.

Cities, towns, villages and other public entities cooperate to form self-insured pools to enjoy the benefits of self insurance on a collective basis, while receiving top-notch service by experts in municipal risk management. These pools provide League members the ability to obtain insurance coverage geared to their unique needs through a program governed by their peers -- other municipal officials across the state. In addition, the pool offers unparalleled expertise with regard to municipal coverage needs, municipal claims and municipal risk management and loss control issues. The League's Risk Management Services provides the daily management for these insurance programs, under the direction of the NCLM Risk Management Board of Trustees.

In this section are descriptions of the three major insurance programs and the other services offered by NCLM Risk Management Services.
