Public Works Director – Lenoir, pop. 18,228. Plans, coordinates and directs department operations, staff and contractors in general services including building maintenance, cemetery operations and maintenance, automotive maintenance and repair, solid waste collection, and street repair and maintenance. Work involves short-range planning and for long range project and major construction projects; budget development, administration and management for the department; personnel management and daily services’ operations management. Supervision of a staff of approximately 46 employees. Involves mgmt. of the dept. capital and operating budgets of 4+ million dollars, capital improvement recommendations and coordination of design, bidding, construction mgmt. inspection and acceptance for the City. Serves as a member of the city’s mgmt. team & advising the city mgr. and Council on long range planning. Work is performed in accordance w/ established state and federal laws and regulations. Must establish and maintain records and reports necessary for full compliance with all regulations and for effective management decision-making. Must represent the City in multiple regional and state issues and insure effective productivity of assigned personnel.  Work involves considerable public contact, initiative and judgment, and a talent for excellent customer service. Work is performed under the direction of the city mgr. Requires graduation from an accredited 4-yr. college or university w/ a degree in business or public admin, civil engineering, management, or related field and considerable related experience in municipal engineering or public works field including some supervisory and management experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Professional Engineering (PE) certification is preferred.  Starting salary DOQ, current range is $72,070 - $103,855  Excellent benefits pkg. Residency within the City of Lenoir will be required within 6 mos. of hire. City applications can be found at & mailed to: City of Lenoir, Human Resources Department – Crystal Smith, PO Box 958, Lenoir 28645, 828-757-2202.  A resume` may be submitted in addition to a city application. Position will be Open Until Filled, with an initial review of applications submitted by December 29, 2017.
