The Village of Pinehurst is seeking a Planning and Inspections Director. Pinehurst, population 16,123, is an historic, internationally known residential resort community and recreational destination, frequent host for prestigious professional golf tournaments and other events. The person in this position performs difficult professional and management work planning, organizing, and directing a department responsible for building code inspections, planning and zoning and development in accordance with the Village’s growth principles and development ordinances. Oversight for functions such as land use planning, historic district preservation, zoning enforcement, subdivision and development review and oversight, annexation process, and various public input processes.  Short and long-range planning and on-going and special projects to ensure guidance and regulation of the growth and development of the Village. Oversight of building code inspections. Conducts studies, performs planning duties, provides managerial and administrative guidance to the department and supervises a staff of professional planners, zoning compliance officials, building inspectors, and support staff. Work requires extensive public contact and work with public input process, and requires coordination with other departments, boards, and commissions. The role also includes developing a favorable relationship between the Village and the business and commercial community. Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree from a college or university with a degree in planning or related field.  Master’s degree preferred and extensive professional experience in public sector planning with considerable supervisory and administrative experience. AICP certification and Certified Zoning Official certification required.  Must have a valid driver’s license.
