Onslow County - Parks and Recreation Director. Onslow County is seeking a Director who is a strong, creative and proactive Parks and Recreation professional to oversee the County’s extensive recreational assets. The next Parks and Recreation Director will have a track record in innovative athletic and recreational programming, a commitment to assess and use technology solutions to enhance effectiveness and marketing, and a vision for growth of the department that matches citizen needs and desires. The County and Department: The County has approximately 1,250 total employees and is organized into 27 departments. The Onslow County Parks and Recreation Department strives to enhance the quality of life of Onslow County citizens through recreation programs, district parks, beach access facilities and an active partnership with the community. The Parks and Recreation Department has a budget of $1.8 million. This department of over 50 is comprised of the Parks and Recreation Director, the Recreation Program Supervisor, the Athletics Program Supervisor, the Parks Superintendent, the Parks Maintenance Supervisor, 2 Parks Operations Officers, 11 Maintenance Workers, 12 Park Attendants, 8 District Coordinators, and 14 seasonal/temporary employees. To learn more about the community, organization and position, click here. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with coursework in recreation, physical education, public administration, business administration, or related field and six (6) or more years of experience in parks and recreation management including three (3) or more years of supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Local Government/Municipal parks and recreation experience and a relevant master’s degree and CPRP certification are highly preferred. The selected candidate will be required to maintain a driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina.  Residency within the County is required. The hiring range is $66,652 to $86,649 with base salary and compensation negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
